Greater Addo Area

The Greater Addo Area is host to Addo Elephant Park, and many other private Game Reserves.

These malaria free reserves all offer the "Big 5" ( Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Lion and Leopard ) and due to the enormous expansions towards the ocean, now includes a marine section with seasonal whales and sharks. ( "Big 7"). Elephant viewing at Addo is rated as the best in the world.

Visitors have the option of self-drive excursions into the park or they can make use of professional services offered by the Park. Well-trained guides accompany guests on open game-drive vehicles for day and night drives.

The Greater Addo Area stretches from the pretty citrus village of Kirkwood in the west, down to the sea, past the Addo Elephant National Park, to where the Sundays River cuts through the ever-shifting sands of the Alexandria dune fields. To the north it stretches into the Zuurberg mountain area.

As diverse as oranges and elephants may be, so is the Greater Addo Route. It could be the high-tech orange packing facilities exporting millions of cartons of oranges, or the magnificent herds of elephants quietly roaming the Addo Elephant Park. It could be the power of the whale rising out of the water or the peaceful glide of a school of dolphins.

The Greater Addo Route a true experience in contrasts.
