Roodewal Bush Lodge - Kruger Park is situated approximately 40 km from the Olifants Restcamp on the gravelled road to Timbavati and is administered from Olifants Restcamp.
Roodewal Bush Lodge - Kruger Park is an exclusive, private lodge with a unique style and atmosphere providing the opportunity for tourists to enjoy complete privacy, as only residents are allowed entrance to the camp.
There are no shops or restaurant facilities, but a fully equipped kitchen. Barbecue facilities are provided and wood may be purchased. The nearest shop is at Olifants Restcamp, 40 km away.
Roodewal must be reserved en bloc. Visitors can check in at any main rest camp or gate.
A special feature is a lookout platform that resembles a treehouse. It is constructed around an enormous Nyala tree, and hangs suspended over the banks of the Timbavati.
Accommodation at Roodewal Bush Lodge - Kruger Park
A bush lodge is an exclusive, private lodge with a unique, rustic style and atmosphere, with multiple rooms and bathrooms. It provides the opportunity for guests to enjoy complete privacy, as only residents are allowed entrance to the lodge area. A bush lodge must be reserved en bloc. Roodewal can accommodate a maximum of 19 persons at a time.
Sleeping Units
All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. Solar panels provide power for lights and fans only.
There is one family cottage with two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one with a bath, the other with a shower).
There are 3 bungalows that have 3 beds each, a loft with two mattresses, a bathroom (shower) and a small refrigerator.
Living Area
The living area comprises of a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, bar, lounge, braai (barbeque) and viewing deck. The kitchen has a gas stove with oven, refrigerator, freezer, cutlery and crockery. Gas braais and braai (barbecue) facilities are provided.
Roodewal Bush Lodge is managed form Satara camp and has no Reception area. Visitors can check in at any main rest camp or gate. Accommodation at Roodewal Bush Lodge is well suited for those Guests who are looking for a private, self-catering bushveld experience.

Regulations when Exiting the Park:
In order to improve overall controls some changes have been made to the check-out process at camps in the Kruger National Park and your assistance and co-operation is kindly requested in this regard.
Guests are reminded that only guests with valid exit permits will be allowed to exit the park. For day visitors these are issued upon entry at gates and for overnight guests these are issued by the last camp on the guest itinerary.
Roodewal 1 (PRW): 1 x 6 bed cottage with 2 en-suite bedrooms, 3 x 4 bed cottages, each with 2 en-suite bedrooms, Boiler (hot water), Communal kitchen and dining room, No electricity (generator used for lights at night, No smoking, Solar panels provide lighting and ceiling fan.
- No cancellation fee will be incurred for cancellations made after payment of first deposit up to and including 46 days prior to arrival.
- Cancellation fees equal to 50% of the total reservation cost is payable in a case of cancellation made between 45 days and 30 days prior to arrival.
- Cancellation fee equal to 100% of the total reservation cost is payable in a case of a cancellation made between 29 days prior to and date of arrival
- 100% of the total cost for any non-arrival/no-shows
Reservation made within 45 days prior to arrival is payable within 24 hours from the day reservation is made.
- Conservation levy is always excluded from the booking amount and needs to be settled on arrival.
It is your responsibility to check if the reservation is correct. Should the reservation be incorrect, please contact our office immediately.
If the arrival date of the itinerary is postponed prior to or on date of arrival and then cancelled at a later stage, the fees that applied at the time of amendment will be enforced if the amount is greater than the new cancellation fees.
Cancelling or downgrading of a reservation 45 days prior to or on arrival will result in cancellation fees according to a sliding scale (based on the total reservation cost) which varies between 50% and 100%.
Should the reservation not be taken up on the arrival date the accommodation will be held until 09:00 the following day after which the reservation will be cancelled and the deposit, where applicable, forfeited.
From Johannesburg / Pretoria to Orpen Gate:
Head toward Nelspruit on the N4, take the R540 Belfast turn off. At Lydenburg turn left onto the R36 heading north. 30 km before Hoedspruit turn right onto the R531 and head to the gate.
Allow between 4 to 5 hours for the trip to the gate. Roodewal Bush Lodge is approximately 75 km from the gate. Allow about 3 hours for the drive to the camp.
