Eric and Ingrid Fredericks are Austrian citizens. Eric`s career with an international advertising agency took them from Austria to Switzerland, England, Singapore, USA, Hong Kong, Germany and France.
After 35 years in the business, Eric retired. We decided that we needed one last big adventure before we get too old and comfortable. So we moved to South Africa and launched the Ufumene Game Lodge
with a boutique lodge.
We are fluent in German and English, and can communicate in French. Next to game ranching, their hobbies include cooking, antiques and good company.
Your first impression as a guest will be the stunning views over the pond and Ufumene`s vast flood plains.
Your bedroom is spacious, with en-suite changing and bath rooms. You will live in a lodge decorated with antiques and fine art from Europe, Asia and Africa.
Lodge life mostly happens on the large covered veranda, furnished with sofas, chairs and tables, and a summer kitchen and dining area. A refreshing swim in the pool is only a few steps away.
On cold days, life moves indoors to the open plan hall that includes a kitchen, dining room and lounge with an open fireplace. The wine cellar also has a cosy bar, where good fun and company lifts the spirits.
Healthy and tasty meals are are made from home grown vegetables, venison, lamb, beef, chickens, eggs.
You will have a choice of cuisines. Besides a good venison braii and other hearty dishes from South Africa, Austria, France and Italy, we offer the exquisite flavors we enjoyed in Singapore, Hong Kong and Lebanon.
English language television channels are available to follow the news and major sporting events. And for entertainment, we have a large library of books and movies. You will be able to keep in touch with the outside world via cell phone and wireless internet.
There are marked roads and trails for unaccompanied walks. You can also book guided bush walks, game drives and horseback rides.
Exploring the bush on a horse is a wonderful way to experience wildlife. You will see much more than on foot or from a vehicle and you will be able to get closer to the game animals.
4 horses are available for guests who want to ride on the farm. They are well trained, reliable and easy to ride. The rides vary in pace and duration and are tailored to suit our guests. We practice safe riding for the sake of both rider and horse. Riders will be guided by an experienced staff member. We have body protectors and helmets in various sizes. Tack and equipment is kept in perfect condition. Guests can choose between english saddles, an Australian stock saddle and South African hand made endurance saddles.

Ufumene Game Lodge Activities: Game Drives and Hikes:
Ufumene measures 2400 hectares (6000 acres). It straddles both sides of a valley in the mountains that separate the wet coastal plains of the Eastern Cape from the arid Karoo. Its flood plains are 300 m above sea level, the high plateaus rise to 500 m. It features 5 different biomes to explore, succulent karoo, broken thorn veld, subtropical savanna, rhino bush and valley thicket.
The Bushman's River winds through the farm. It flows after big rains, but its pools are kept full with water seeping down from the hills. Along its banks it sustains a mature forest of acacia, bush willow, jacket plum and paperbark trees. You will find most indigenous species of animals on the ranch with the exception of dangerous game. Ufumene carries 16 species of antelope, giraffe, zebra and ostrich, all sorts of small animals and wonderful wild birds.
Visits to Addo National Park and Schotia Safaris:
Both are within a 1 hour drive from Ufumene. Both have the Big 5 animals and many other game animals.
