The estate takes its name from the elephants that can frequently be seen drinking and grazing on the banks of the mighty Sabie River. More specifically, the famous elephant bull “Mandleve” which translates as “Ear or Torn Ear”, was one of the famous Magnificent 7 who lived out his days along this particular section of river. He died in the Kruger National Park close to Elephant Point, his long tusks weighed about 150kg, being heavier than any of the famous Magnificent Seven. The Elephant Point property is situated on the edge of approximately 5km of river frontage, the river rises in the Great Escarpment with its source being near the Long Tom pass and flows past Elephant Point across the width of the Kruger National Park into Mozambique ending in the Indian Ocean. There is a romantic interpretation that the origin of the name “Sabie” is the anglicized version of the Zulu word “Saba” which means “fear”. It was said this arose as the local people feared going to this river because of the high numbers of lions, leopards and crocodiles to be found there, all of which can still be seen and heard up to this very day from the lodges within Elephant Point.

* Check-in time:
Check-in is from 15h00 onwards.
* Upon arrival, if prior to 17h00, guests will sign in the register at the main gate with the security gates man. If after 17h00, then guests will just be handed the lodge key at the gate when signing in.
* The security will then direct all guests to their respective lodges which is also clearly marked.
* When entering the lodge the relevant paperwork such as the registration, indemnity forms and Wi-Fi voucher will be inside the lodge, and either of management will welcome you at the lodge once settled in.

Directions from Johannesburg International Airport to Elephant Point:
* Take the N4 tollroad to Nelspruit via Witbank.
* In Nelspruit turn left at the third traffic light into General Dan Pienaar Road.
* Proceed on the R40 towards White River, into Kruger Park Street, proceed down the main road and turn left at the 6th traffic light into Theo Kleinhans Street, towards Hazyview.
* Continue for 45km on the R40 until you reach a T-junction.
* Turn left towards Hazyview.
* At the 2nd traffic light turn onto Kruger Gate Road.
* Continue on R569 for 25kms past Phabeni Gate heading towards the Kruger Gate.
* Elephant Point is situated on your right hand side, directly opposite the Sabi Sands turnoff. (We are +/-5km before the Paul Kruger gate)
