Ceres, Breede River Valley, Nestled in a valley surrounded by the majestic Boland Mountains, Ceres is aptly named after the Goddess of Fertility. Accessible through breathtaking mountain passes like the Theronsberg Pass on the N1 from Cape Town, this region is renowned for its lush fruit farms and scenic beauty. Known as one of South Africa’s largest deciduous fruit-growing regions, Ceres produces peaches, nectarines, apples, apricots, pears, and cherries, with visitors flocking to the Ceres Fruit Route during the fruit-picking season from December to April.
The towns of Ceres and Prince Alfred’s Hamlet lie in the valley, while the district extends into the Karoo, offering game farms and bird-watching opportunities. The Dwars River, flowing through Ceres, provides excellent trout fishing and adds to the area’s appeal for nature lovers, who can explore its hiking trails, rivers, and streams.
