Camp Shonga is a small intimate bush retreat resting in the foothills of the Lebombo Mountains, overlooking the African bushveld. Camp Shonga is managed by Shishangeni Private Game Lodge and is situated in the 15,000 hectare private concession in the in the south-eastern section of The Kruger National Park.
Camp Shonga gives the guests the opportunity to experience the real Africa majestic, unfiltered and unadorned.
The emphasis of the camp is on nature without losing the luxury and superior service our guests are accustomed to. We are striving top create the optimum balance between people and their environment, whilst having a minimal impact on the surrounding habitat.
Located in the Big 5 terrain, the ethos behind Camp Shonga is for the highly trained and experienced guides to share their vast knowledge of varying eco-systems with our guests, with the added emphasis of inviting guests participation in select environmental awareness programmes.
Accommodation at Camp Shonga
A small five tented ethnic bush retreat built in the foothills of the Lebombo mountains, Camp Shonga is the ideal getaway for those seeking that little bit more than a regular safari.
Camp Shonga can accommodate 10 guests in 5 individual tents, all luxuriously equipped with en-suite bathrooms and ball and claw baths, outside shower, fans, fireplace and private game-viewing deck with recliner chairs.
Here, we believe that luxury and comfort in the bush is ultimately the best escape form the stresses of the world. Wander up to the main area and laze in the charming open lounge area, or dine and sip on drinks on a spacious wooden deck as the game meander past.
Unfortunately Camp Shonga does not accommodate children under the age of 16 years.
Activities & Facilities
Game drives and guided walks form a regular part of the daily activities, thus ensuring an all round safari experience. Guests are met at the main camp at Shishangeni on arrival and transferred to Shonga by open vehicle.
The camp can only accommodate ten guests at any one time in the luxuriously equipped large tents, all with en-suite bathrooms, outside showers, ceiling fans and private game viewing decks. Mini-bar fridges, coffee or tea stations and fireplaces add to the comfort of every tent. The attentive staff are at your beck and call at all times.
The central common area consists of a charming lounge and open deck where guests can relax while sipping a cool drink as the wild game wanders past. A splash pool is an added comfort to enjoy in the heat of the summer, after a memorable guided walk into the pristine wilderness around the camp.
Dining is also a special time at Shonga and most meals are taken outdoors under the clear African skies, while sitting around a blazing fire, listening to the enchanting tales and experiences of the local community.
The camp is in constant radio contact with the main camp at Shishangeni but has no other telephonic communication available.
The above rate includes 15% VAT, 1% tourism levy, breakfast, lunch, dinner, 2 game drive activities, snacks and beverages in the park, wifi at Shishangeni Main Lodge and parking.
Rates excludes transfers, SANParks gate entrance fees, meals other than specified, drinks, gratuities and items of a personal nature.
Shishangeni Lodge takes no responsibility for the fees of a client’s passport validity, visa, travel permits, travel insurance, health certificates, inoculations and any other documentation required for the trip.
- Cancellations made 7 to 14 days of arrival will be charged one (1) night’s accommodation, at the reserved room rate.
- Cancellations made 0 to 6 days of arrival will be charged 100%.
- All no shows will be charged at 100% of the total value of the booking.
BY ROAD FROM THE NEARST CBD
Drive through the town of Komatipoort towards Crocodile Bridge gate (8km). Once inside the Kruger National Park, travel for 4km and cross the Vurhami bridge. Turn right at the first Shishangeni Lodge sign board onto a gravel road. Turn right at the second sign board for Shishangeni Lodge (no entry sign). Drive for about another 10km. This road will take you straight to the lodge. Guests will be transfered from Shishangeni to Shonga Camp.
