Heidelberg is set on the banks of the Duivenhoks River and offers great natural beauty and real country hospitality.

The lovely Dutch Reformed church, in Gothic architecture, forms the hub of the town, from where visitors can venture out on different routes.

From here you can visit the Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve in the Langeberg Mountains, or journey into the Small Karoo via the Tradouws- or Gysmanshoek Passes.

Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve is situated in the Langeberg, about 22 km northwest of Heidelberg, and comprises 250 ha of forest. The indigenous forest is the most noteworthy in the southwestern Cape and the largest remaining example in the Langeberg. It is the only home of a subspecies of the ghost frog and forest emperor butterfly.

Heidelberg has a moderate climate, plentiful water, rich soil, clean air, rural tranquility, a friendly community and advanced infrastructure - an ideal place to visit and stay over.

About 40km from Heidelberg is Witsand - a popular sea-side resort offering a multitude of water sports, angling, deep sea fishing and whale watching. The Breede River at Witsand is navigable for 32 km.
