The Breede River is approximately 337 km long and the word "Breede" is Dutch for "wide". The major towns in the catchment include Swellendam in the middle to lower catchment, Montagu and Robertson in the middle catchment and Worcester in the upper catchment.

There is one dam on the river, the Brandvlei Dam. The river's source catchment is in the Skurweberge mountain range above Ceres and it mouths into the Indian Ocean at Witsand at St. Sebastian Bay.

Only one and a half hours from Cape Town, the tranquil Breede River at the foot of Bains kloof is home to world-renowned wines. Raft through beautiful Winelands and towering mountains to return to Cape Town the next day a new person.

Surrounded by wine farms and tranquility, rafting the Breede River is an ideal escape from the city for a day or overnight trip. The rafting is ideal for corporate incentives, families, couples, adventour seekers and in general outdoor people seeking a weekend break.

The water in the river fluctuates in winter and summer and different venues for starting the rafting trips are used.
