Bonnievale Co-op Wine Cellar is situated two kilometres outside the picturesque town of Bonnievale on the Stormsvlei road which links up with the N2 from Cape Town to Mossel Bay.

It is the gateway for visitors to the Robertson Valley Wine Route en route from well-known holiday destinations such as Struisbaai, Arniston, Agulhas and Hermanus.

The cellar was formed in 1964 by 29 members and the first grape intake was 4 613 tons. From these humble beginnings the yearly grape intake increased to the current 12 500 tons.

Today the grapes are produced by 60 members in the Robertson, Buffeljagsriver, Bonnievale and Swellendam wine producing regions. These regions all have their own microclimates and this enables our cellarmaster,Henk Wentzel,to produce excellent wine from various cultivars.

His vision is to capture in his wine the flavours created by nature in the grape. He describes his white wine as elegant, easy-drinking wines while the reds are described by him as exceptionally fruity with nice tannins ensuring an easy drinking red wine which requires little or no maturation.

Our philosophies on Wine making are "Good wine can only be made from good grapes" and Wine: "Produced by nature, only bottled by us"Only the best grapes are used for our bottled wine. (Good is not good enough in a market where quality is of the utmost importance).

Block selection, better vini- (Updated cellar, small French oak barrels, modern technicues) and viticulture procedures and much stricter quality control from the vineyard to the bottle are already in place and ensure that quality is the lasting impression on our wines.
