Bredasdorp Town - Tourist Information

Established by Michiel van Breda, leading farmer in the area, in 1838. This bustling vibrant town with a population of about 22 000, can offer the visitor a variety of business facilities & service providers.

The town is the economic hub of the Cape Agulhas region, serving the townsfolk, farmers from outlying areas and visitors to the nearby coastal towns.

Bredasdorp is situated 41km from the most Southern Point of Africa in LAgulhas

Attractions
Visit the Shipwreck Museum. It was founded in 1975 & are specialising in shipwrecks along the South African coastline & also contains showpieces specific to the Overberg

At Overberg Agri entrance you will find the Merino Statue in honour for the birth place of the Merino sheep in the area

The Dutch Reformed Church in Church Street was the first church in Bredasdorp erected in 1838. Weddings & servicesare are still being held in the Old Anglican Church now the All Saints church, erected in 1863 & designed by Sophie Grey

Driving from Bredasdorp to Arniston you will find the Old Bontebok fence erected in 1837 by Alexander van der Bijl then owner of the Nacht Wacht Farm one of the oldest farms' in the area. The Bontebok was dminished to the Southern Overberg in the 1930's

At Heuningberg Nature Reserve, spectacular sightings of the rare Bredasdorp Lily can be seen in April & May. You can also see large varieties of Erica's & Protea Species

On your way from Bredasdorp to Struisbaai you will find our national bird the Blue Crane. At Soetendalsvlei, southern Africa's largest naural body of fresh water, you will find plenty of birdlife.
