Botrivier Village - Tourist information

The small village of Botrivier is situated en route to Hermanus and Caledon at the eastern slopes of the Houw Hoek Mountains overlooking the rolling wheatlands of the Overberg

It is the gateway to the Overberg and established on the old farm Compagnies Drift - a historical trading and bartering station of the VOC (Dutch East India Company). The historical estate is almost in the centre of the village.

The first owner of Compagnies Drift accommodated travellers at night and it was also a resting place on the Old Wagon Track for generations. The Botrivier Hotel was built during the early 1890s and took over the duties of the traditional stopover.

Today the hotel is popular local watering hole lined with memorabilia that could keep you there for hours. It has a great restaurant and holds regular music concerts. It is also a drop-off point for the Baz Bus shuttle.

Botrivier is close to the Bot River Lagoon, Kleinmond and Walker Bay. The village offers many activities to visitors. Besides horse-riding, hiking trails and quad biking, there are also wine tours to take with about twelve wine farms in the District

Surrounded by fertile valleys, fynbos rich mountains and historical winefarms, it offers much to nature lovers, wine tasters and artists.
