Visit the Chavonnes Battery Cannon Museum, Clock Tower V&A and step back into Cape Town of 280 years ago. When completed in 1726, there was no Waterfront, no Clock Tower and no Alfred Basin.
The Chavonnes Battery is a VOC (Dutch East India Company) Fort built in 1714 to protect Table Bay from sea-borne aggressors. Partially destroyed and buried in 1860 when the harbor was built, it was rediscovered and since 2012 a visitor attraction about the History of Cape Town.
Visitors are invited to enjoy a different international photo exhibitions every 6 months and explore the Archaeology Ruins of the fort and displays in the museum. Or join a Museum Tour on the original Cape Town shoreline or the official V&A Waterfront Historical Walking Tour. The adventurous can even fire a real muzzle loading cannon.
