Main attractions include indigenous forest, diverse scenery and vegetation, views of Venda and the mountain environment.
The hikes begin and end at Klein Australie Hut in Entabeni State Forest, situated approximately 40 km east of Louis Trichardt. Bushbuck, duiker and samango monkeys are all plentiful here. The birds of the area are rather elusive, although louries and woodpeckers abound.
The Entabeni Section of the Soutpansberg Hiking Trail passes through indigenous forest and exotic plantations.
Hikers will probably catch a glimpse of the crowned eagle, which breeds here, as this area has possibly the highest concentration of this powerful raptor in South Africa. The best months for hiking are March to October
Soutpansberg Hiking Trail offers 3 option namely 48 km (3 days); 47 km (2 days); 30 km (2 days). Facilities include Kabeibaan, Entabeni and Klein Australie overnight huts, each equipped with beds and mattresses for 30 hikers, hot and cold showers, and braai facilities.
Ticks are prevalent; anti-malaria precautions are necessary in summer; bilharzia is present in some streams. There is a limit of 30 hikers for this trail at any one time.
