Situated amongst the rolling hills of the Khomas Hochland, the Daan Viljoen Game Park is a sanctuary for game typical of Namibia's highland. Because of its proximity to Windhoek and its tranquil setting, it is a popular overnight stop for visitors who wish to avoid the hustle and bustle of the capital.

Although small, the park supports a healthy game population and is also a good spot for bird-watching. In addition to the tarred access road, there is a 6,4 km gravel-surface circular drive which facilitates game-viewing.

However, the best way to get a closer look at the plants and animals of the park is on foot. As there are no large predators in the park, visitors are encouraged to make use of the walking trails.

There is a restaurant, kiosk and swimming pool. For day visitors there are picnic sites along the edge of the dam, while two open-air entertainment areas are popular with groups. No service station is available in the park.

Daan Viljoen Unguided Hiking Trail: (+/-32 km):
There is an un-guided trail which starts at 9h00 from the office of the Daan Viljoen Rest Camp. Only one group of 3 - 12 persons is allowed per trail. Reservations to be made well in advance. Hikers must provide own food and equipment. The Trail is undertaken at the hikers own risk.

Directions

From Windhoek take the C28 west for +/- 15 km. The Daan Viljoen Game Park turn-off is clearly marked, and the gate is 1,5 km from the main road. The park office is another 2,5 km along this road.
