Our portfolio of camps provides the perfect base from which to explore vast stretches of pristine nature where you will encounter small and large desert dwellers, intriguing flora and fascinating geology. Warmth and personalized service - and a commitment to care for guests and nature alike - are Wolwedans hallmarks.

As our guest at Wolwedans, we want to provide you with a holistic and truly rewarding nature experience.  Each camp has been carefully sited and flaunts its distinctive backdrop of awe-inspiring desert scenery.  All camps were constructed using poles, elevated wooden decks and roll-up canvas walls and are driven solely by solar power - ensuring a very light environmental footprint on the pristine desert ecology.

Wolwedans Desert Lodge is perched on top of a dune plateau, overlooking panoramic vistas in all directions and capturing the beauty of the desert most memorably.  The building style is a combination of wooden structures and canvas blinds, opening up to the desert beyond.  The lodge reflects the ambience of a tented camp but provides the comfort and protection of a permanent building.

Each of the nine spacious tented stands with en-suite bathrooms has a private verandah, which connects you to vast stretches of untouched sand.  Sleeping with your canvas blinds open is just like sleeping under the stars.

Dinners, of course, are a lavish, but unpretentious affair.  They always exude a sense of occasion with elegant table settings, candlelight and exuberant menu announcements in the local Nama language.  Wolwedans has a reputation for serving the best meals on the Namibian safari circuit and we are more than happy to indulge you with our innovative, wholesome and sophisticated ‘bush-cuisine’, prepared lovingly with homegrown organic fresh produce and paired with excellent local and South African wines.

The main complex - which was completely rebuilt in 2003 - consists of two lounges, a few sundowner decks, a fireplace, a tea deck, a library, the wine cellar and two dining rooms.  The lodge also has a swimming pool, which is suspended above the sand.  All communal areas of the lodge open out onto decks with superb views.  The variety of recreational spaces makes guest visits both exciting and relaxing.

Not to forget your physical wellbeing Wolwedans has a resident massage therapist specializing in Swedish massage, Marula Oil Massage, Indian Head Massage and Foot Massage.  Enjoy our range of soothing massages in the serenity of the surrounding desert, making your Wolwedans experience even more memorable.

Area Info:

Namib Rand Nature Reserve, which is located just south of Sossusvlei, is synonymous with some of Africa’s most breathtaking locations. The special attraction of the reserve is the diversity of the landscape. Virtually all facets of the Namib are represented here, creating a living tapestry of colours and shapes that makes it a visual utopia for artists and photographers. A quote by well-known travel writer Amy Schoemann sums it up: ‘Imagine the flamboyant magnificence of the Sossusvlei dunes, the mystique and subtle beauty of the Skeleton Coast and the legendary red sands of the Kalahari synthesized into one multifaceted desert reserve and you have NamibRand, a privately owned conservation area of over 200 000 hectares. Add to it inselbergs that look like beehives dripping with chocolate sauce, vast fields of mysterious fairy circles, an intriguing history and a species-rich flora and fauna and you might have an inkling of what makes this reserve so unusual.

* Soar the desert skies in a hot air balloon
* Embark on a fly-in day safari
* Experience the true magnitude of NamibRand on a walking safari
* Land rover drives and nature walks with resident field guides
* Sundowners on the dunes and dinners by candlelight.

Accompanied by experienced guides, visitors are introduced to the many facets of NamibRand Nature Reserve's unique desert habitat with its manifold fauna and flora.

Walking, driving, or from the air in a hot air balloon. In order to really get Wolwedans under the skin, guests should stay for two nights.
