The town of Kirkwood is situated in the heart of the Sundays River Valley and can be considered the citrus capital of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The Greater Addo area offers many tourist attractions, including the Addo Elephant Park and Daniell Cheetah Project. Kirkwood boasts a fine lookout point with wide vistas over the valley. During the picking season (April to Sept), tractors with trailers brimming with oranges rumble into town, and the local co-op literally seethes with activity. Activities in Kirwood include a 9-hole golf course. A pitted gravel road leads to this pastoral village where sacraments are still given in the church with its yellowwood rafters, teak window frames and brass hanging lamps. The Lookout is also well known as a site where large dinosaur fossils are frequently dug up by archaeologists. If cancelling 21 days before arrival, forfeit 50% of the deposit.

Directions:

From Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport (Port Elizabeth): 1. Leave the airport by heading north on Airport W Rd for about 50 metres. 2. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Allister Miller Dr. Drive for about 1.4 kilometres and go through one more roundabout. 3. Turn left onto Forest Hill N/B Rd and continue for 850 metres. 4. Next, turn right onto Walmer Blvd/M9 and go for 600 metres. 5. Turn left onto the M4, following the signs for R75/Grahamstown/Uitenhage. Drive for about 6.8 kilometres. 6. Take Exit 751B to merge onto the N2 toward Grahamstown. This is a drive of 3.3 kilometres. 7. Take Exit 754 for M3/John Tallant Road toward R102/M19/Swartkops/Uitenhage/Port Elizabeth. This is a short 400 metres. 8. Keep slightly left toward John Tallant Rd/M3 for about 86 metres, then continue straight for another 700 metres. 9. Turn right onto Grahamstown Rd/R102 for 850 metres. 10. Turn left onto Trunk Rd/R367 and continue on this road for about 13.6 kilometres. 11. Merge onto the R75 and drive for about 7.6 kilometres. 12. Stay straight on the R75 for a significant 32.9 kilometres. 13. Take a right turn after that long stretch and drive for 11.6 kilometres. 14. Turn left onto the R336 and continue for 2.5 kilometres. 15. Continue onto Sonopstraat. Your destination will be on the left.
