Thornleys Guest House
Thornleys Guest House is a small, upmarket guest house, situated in the historical town of Eshowe, in the heart of Zululand. At 500 metres above sea-level and 25 kilometers from the Indian Ocean, Eshowe has arguably the best weather in Zululand.

Play golf at Eshowe Hills golf estate, go birding on the internationally renowned Zululand Birding Route or visit one of Zululand`s many attractions.

Eshowe is the perfect base camp from which to travel and experience the real Zululand.

Thornleys Guest House has 5 en-suite bedrooms and offers comfortable and affordable accommodation. A recent addition to Thornleys is the "Traveller`s Room" - en-suite and with 4 single beds. This room is more affordable than the others and is aimed at the budget oriented traveller or backpacker.

A wonderful collection of antiques which make for a very definite Zululand colonial feel.

The private dining room offers the special Thornleys breakfast. Breakfast is served from Monday to Friday and no breakfast is served on the week-ends. Dinner can also be arranged on request.

Relax near the pool, or read a book on one of the verandas. A home away from home, relaxation Zululand Style!

Thornleys has free wireless internet and dstv. A homely environment is what we strive for and Guests are encouraged to make full use of the house facilities.

A central feature of Thornleys, is the house pub. Complete with a fireplace, braai and a big screen television. It makes for a very pleasant atmosphere to view cricket or rugby on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

The garden is lush and stretches into the magnificent Dlinza forest which makes for great birding, right on your doorstep.

A recent addition to Thornleys is the birding deck, 4 metres high and overlooking the Dlinza forest.
With coffee in hand, a wonderful way to spend and early morning birding.

Only an hour and quarter`s drive to the North of King Shaka International airport in Durban. Thornleys is an ideal week-end getaway destination for the city dweller who wants some genuine country serenity.

Accommodation at Thornleys Guest House:
Double Rooms (3):
All en-suite with King sized beds. 1 room has en-suite bath and shower. 2 rooms have an en-suite shower.

Family room (1):
En-suite with a king-sized bed and 2 single beds. This room has a shower. These rooms all have flatscreen television with dstv, free wireless internet, a ceiling fan and coffee tray.

Traveller`s Room (1):
This is a large en-suite room with 4 single beds. There is NO DTSV in this room however guests from this room are welcome to use the bar television and other facilities. Significantly more affordable than the other rooms, this room is intended by the budget conscious traveller or backpacker.

See the Butterflies - Visit the spectacular new Eshowe butterfly enclosure. This butterfly house conveniently situated right next door to Fort Nonqayi Museum village.

Visit Fort Nonqayi Museum Village - Less than three kilometers from Thornleys is the Fort Nonqayi museum village. Built in 1883, Fort Nonqayi has become a museum and showcase the interesting history of the area.

Vukani basket museum is adjacent to Fort Nonqayi - This museum has a comprehensive collection of Zulu baskets and a well laid out and interesting display of Zulu baskets and the history thereof.

Adams Outpost restaurant, which is also within the museum village is delightful restaurant which operates in a hundred year old building. Tasty midday meals are offered at very reasonable prices.

Madeathome farmers market - Held every Saturday morning, madeathome is a farmers market. On offer are: Baked products, fresh produce, arts and crafts. There is also a tea garden which has good quality coffee and tea complimented by home-made cake and scones.

George Hotel & Zululand Brewery - If you wish to experience a genuine country hotel and pub. The George Hotel is a kilometer away from Thornleys.

The guesthouse is situated in a very quiet place, that brings peace to your mind. However there are many opportunities to visit in the neighborhood. The owners have a warm heart and treat you almost as part of the family. It was really great to be there.
