Negotiations for land between the King of the Zulus (Dingane) and the Boer leader (Piet Retief) were unsuccessful, and due to misunderstandings, a group of 101 Voortrekkers were killed at Kwamatiwane (hill of execution) *As a result, the Boers made a vow that if God grant them victory over the Zulus, they would build a church in thanksgiving and commemorate the event annually *Later that month, 15 000 Zulus attacked 460 Voortrekkers at Blood River. On entering Dundee from Newcastle or Ladysmith: turn right into Tatham Street at the very first traffic light - we are No 34, about 800 metres from the traffic light.
On entering Dundee from Vryheid: you will come in on Victoria Road.
