The main body of the Lodge overlooks a natural waterhole. The dining room, bar and plunge pool are situated at the main lodge area. Guests can either sit on the main viewing deck or around the pool and enjoy their drinks with a spectacular view of the waterhole. Tau’s 5 star accommodation consists of 30 luxury thatched chalets, all with views of the game approaching the water hole.
In-Room facilities:
Each chalet ensures privacy with its own viewing deck, en suite bathroom, open-air shower, air-conditioning and ceiling fans. The chalets are equipped with tea & coffee making facilities, a safe and a bar fridge which can be stocked on request.
Establishment Facilities:
The Spa Oasis offers rejuvenating spa treatments, while the curio shop at the entrance of the Lodge stocks a variety of clothing and memorabilia. Our state-of-the-art convention centre offers specialists equipment designed with simple plug in and play options for all presentation needs. All of our younger visitors become automatic members of the Tau Cubz Club.
Children
Children at Tau Game Lodge aged 0-2 years sharing with parents stay free and baby-sitting services are on offer at an extra charge.
Children aged 3 to 5 years old sharing with parents are charged a nominal fee and automatically become members of the Tau Cubz Club, which is great fun and includes a short game drive after breakfast just for the kids. After their game drive, children are entertained with treasure hunts and arts and crafts activities. The children are provided with their own Cubz Club backpacks, which are filled with a wildlife activity booklet, which includes an animal sticker checklist, a deputy ranger sticker badge and certificate, (which is signed off by their personal ranger) as well as a special Tau T-shirt.
Madikwe Game Reserve is one of the premier game reserves in Southern Africa. It is situated in the North West Province and is bordered by Botswana in the north, the spectacular Dwarsberg Mountains to the south, the Marico river to the east. The Reserve is unusual in many respects; the rich diversity of the vegetation in the reserve is a reflection of its complex geomorphology. The diverse habitat in the Madikwe Reserve, from acacia savannah to riverine, ensures a unique combination of species such as springbok, gemsbok, sable and impala.
Our knowledgeable and highly qualified guides take guests out on safari twice daily. Tau is recognised for its contribution to developing eco-friendly safaris whilst also being involved in community development. The Tau Tree Fund was started to allow visitors to the Lodge the opportunity to play an active role in conservation. Guests can purchase an indigenous tree and this will be documented on photograph and a plaque on a board at the Lodge
The Deluxe room is suitable for families (2 adults & 2 children under 12 years) / 3 adults sharing. Large lounge area with sleeper couch bed with an ensuite. Amenities include air conditioning, bathrobes, tea, and coffee-making facilities Private balcony.
Two large suites joined by a communal lounge area. The bath facilities are incorporated into the suite. Semi- interleading. Family suite compromises of Chalet 1 & 2 together, Suitable for adults with children.
The Family unit is made up of two standard chalets which are semi-interleading and joined by a communual lounge area. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom. Family unit Rooms 29 and 30 together Suitable for 4 adults or 2 adults and 2 children.
The standard chalet with a private balcony overlooks the waterhole can accommodate 2 adults sharing or a single adult. Amenities include air conditioning, bathrobes, tea, and coffee-making facilities, and a safe.

From Pretoria take the N4 direction Rustenburg From Johannesberg travel via Fourways to Hartebeestpoortdam, following the signs to the N4 and continue this toll road to Rustenburg, Swartruggens, Groot Marico and Zeerust. Toll fees ± R 100.00. In Zeerust, turn right at President street onto the R49 to Gaborone. You’ll reach the first Madikwe Game Reserve gate approximately 90km from Zeerust. Pass all the gates indicating Madikwe and travel to the Kopfontein border post going towards Gaborone Turn right onto the Derdepoort Gate road, just before the border post and follow the road for approximately 10 km to the Tau lodge gate.
