The Khula Village is a contemporary village – more a township – providing insight into how the local Zulu people live today. This village can only be visited if accompanied by a guide. The Veyane Village is a true cultural experience – the tour takes the visitor into the heart of a real working Zulu community where age old tradition meets contemporary Zulu society.
Dumazulu Traditional Village is situated in the heart of Zululand, near the Hluhluwe/ Imfolozi Park where guests can watch and learn about Zulu traditions and culture including basket-weaving, spear and shield making, bead work, pot-making, Sangoma bone-throwing and spectacular Zulu dancing.
The Dumazulu Traditional Village is home to over 50 Zulu residents forming part of a "living museum". Dumazulu - meaning "Thundering Zulu", is the large cultural Zulu village which was opened by King Goodwill Zwelithini - placing the royal Zulu stamp of approval on the objectives and authenticity of Dumazulu. Itala Weavers near Hluhluwe makes beautiful woven baskets in the traditional Zulu Style.
There are numerous walks within easy commute or walking distance from the guest house. These vary from gentle to fairly strenuous and include pristine beach walks and dune forest hiking. St Lucia and the coastline area in particular is a birding paradise with over 450 species identified in this globally important birding area (IBA). The area also has 29 Red Data Listed Birds.
Boat trips and sundown cruises on the lake can be arranged. On these trips you will be introduced to the white and black mangrove ecosystems unique to this area, as well as animal and birdlife that inhabit this wetland.
Visit the local crocodile research centre - interesting facts and information is related during the crocodile feeding sessions on Saturdays at 3pm and Sunday 11:30am.
There are also many beautiful warm beaches nearby, the best of which is the unspoilt beach of Cape Vidal - situated within the Eastern Shores Game Reserve. Swimming in the warm Indian Ocean is one of the highlights of avisit to Cape Vidal, snorkeling at low tide on a natural reef within a calm bay.
Guided safaris in a specially modified vehicle suited for game watching can be arranged in the Hluhluwe - Umfolozi Game Reserve, where the Big Five can be seen. Guests will be collected at the B&B. Deep-sea fishing charters can be arranged on your behalf. A wide variety of fish can be caught on these trips, including game fish such as sailfish and marlin. There are also fly fishing opportunities from the beach.
Kayaking tours with experienced guides on Lake St.Lucia allow visitors to get up close to an array of water birds, hippos and crocodiles. Some of the best whale watching along the South African coast can be found in these waters from July to November. Tours can be arranged, and booking is essential to secure your place for an unforgettable experience.
Turtle-nesting tours are available with a qualified guide. December to February only. Night Drive - This unique chance to see wildlife and the African bush at night, it is also one of the best chances of spotting one of our local leopards.
