Premier Resort Sani Pass
Premier Resort Sani Pass is a stunning resort in the Southern Drakensberg nestled at the foot of the Pass and on the banks of the Mkhomazana River with its fresh water coming straight from the Drakensberg Mountains. Our Resort is a mere 19km from Underberg with a road built from the Lesotho border post via the Katse & Mohali dams to Maseru and the South African border post to Ladybrandt in the Free State. In addition, Premier Hotel Himeville Arms is also just 12km away.

Premier Resort Sani Pass extensive range of facilities ensures non-stop fun and relaxation for all. Tours up the famous Sani Pass depart daily from the hotel either in 4x4 vehicles or on our quad bikes. Passports are, however, essential.

The Hotel offers a quality continental and local style cuisine, with candlelight dinners. Our wine list features a selection of fine wines from our country`s vineyards to suit all palettes.

The Pass
From the rocky foothills of the Sani Valley the rugged Sani Pass climbs a further 1000 m high into the Drakensberg. It crosses the border into Lesotho at 2873 m above sea level. Close by lies the highest peak south of Kilimanjaro – Thabana Ntlenyana.

Tours will explain the history of the Pass, reveal the unique mountain flora and rare birds of this area such as the Orange-breasted Rockjumper, take you past refreshing waterfalls (frozen in winter) and visit a traditional Basotho village, sampling the life of villagers who survive on these windswept mountain slopes and have a drink at the highest pub in Africa.

Accommodation at Sani Pass Hotel & Leisure Resort
For anyone looking for scenic and luxury accommodation in the Drakensberg area, Premier Resort Sani Pass offers comfortable rooms with its Ezemvelo Nature Reserve surrounds. The area is populated by Eland and plenty of hiking and biking trails for those who are adventurous at heart. A permit is needed to traverse the Ezemvelo Reserve and these are available at reception.

Garden Cottages
Thatched cottages in the beautiful hotel gardens accommodate guests in single and double rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms or showers.

For families, we have interleading cottages and rondavels.

Front facing double rooms have en-suite bathrooms, TV and patios overlooking the bowling greens.

Main Building
In the main hotel building, choose between standard doubles, spacious luxury doubles, or executive / honeymoon rooms.

Standard doubles all have an en-suite bathroom and/or shower, and T.V. The luxury doubles enjoy magnificent north-facing views across the golf course. These are large en-suite rooms with T.V, bath and shower.

The executive / honeymoon rooms are individually decorated luxury rooms with the best views. They have an en-suite bathroom, T.V. and lounge area.

Activities and Facilities at Sani Pass Hotel & Leisure Resort:
Surrounded by mountains, the resort is the base for 4X4 excursions up the Sani Pass, which can be reserved for guests at our reception desk. The Drakensberg resort also provides access to horse trails up the mountain to Lesotho as well as shorter horse rides around the property and pony rides for children.

The magnificent golf course setting includes 10 greens and 18 tees and is challenging for the better golfer, but still friendly for the beginner and lady golfer. It is a walking course and due to the greens being close to the tees and its meandering nature, it makes for an easy and pleasant walk and a chance encounter with wildlife is likely.

Further activities on-site include Swimming, Chess, Snooker, Table Tennis, Croquet, Petanque, Volleyball, a Poker table, Putt-Putt, Fly Fishing and Bass Fishing. A magnificent Spa with inspirational views is open for your enjoyment.

Guests can enjoy fishing as well as golfing, hiking, horse riding, croquet, petanque and tennis at Premier Resort Sani Pass. The famous historic Old English Pub at Himeville Arms, dates back to 1904 and is famous for its mouthwatering curries and hearty stews, which can be enjoyed in front of the fireplace. The River Glen Cheese Farm is a popular stop for “foodies” looking to explore local cuisine and produce. In Lesotho, visit an authentic Basotho Hut, learn about the Flag language of the huts and see how they live.

Guided tours are a must and whether you explore the area in a 4×4, on horseback or on foot; San Rock paintings, natural forests, waterfalls and indigenous flora and fauna are just a few of the discoveries that await you.

We had an enjoyable stay at Sani Pass Hotel and there was plenty to do at Sani Pass.

For a old establishment such as Sani pass hotel, it is sad to see that there is a lack of attention to detail. We organised the trip for an overseas visitor who was quite surprised that; - The manager was never seen. - We were not shown to our rooms. - There was no hot water in the morning for our showers. - The quality of meals both dinner and breakfast was dismal and most of the food was lukewarm at best. - Most of the waiters appeared disinterested in service. - On check-out the staff seemed equally disinterested in the fact that we had no hot water. Overall it was a sad reflection of Berg hospitality and difficult to consider a revisit.
