A private nature reserve of over 3 500 hectares, Moolmanshoek was developed from a conservation area into a natural heritage site.

It is situated in the district of Ficksburg in the Eastern Free State at the foot of the Witteberge.

For the adventure lovers there is the Visierskerf 4 x 4 Eco-Route and a variety of hiking trails.

Relax in the thatched-roofed restaurant, with its excellent cuisine and bar facilities ending off your day in one of the luxury modern sandstone suites for a peaceful night`s sleep.

Steeped in rich history dating from before the Great Trek, the farm is skillfully managed by its friendly staff.

Moolmanshoek Private Game Reserve charges a Resort Entry Fee of R75 per person.

Area Info:

Moolmanshoek is situated in the Witteberg mountain range between the towns of Ficksburg and Rosendal, Eastern Free State, South Africa.  The reserve covers an area of 3300 hectares and is a Natural Heritage site (No 199).

Attractions:

Moolmanshoek is situated a mere 3½ hours drive from Johannesburg, 4 hours drive from Pretoria, 2½ hours from Bloemfontein.  The closest town is Rosendal (20 km away), while Ficksburg, which is on the Lesotho border, is 35 km away.

Activities:

Horse Riding  -  Facilities for 2 - 12 riders accompanied by an experienced guide - 1 hour to 3 day trips. (Extra cost)

Bird Watching  -  The Moolmanshoek conservancy hosts more tham 230 kinds of species providing a challenge for the avid bird watcher.

Abseiling  -  There are two challenging sandstone cliffs - the highest of 40 meters. (Extra cost)

Fishing  -  Enjoy fishing in natural spring water. Black Bass and Carp. Bring your own rod. (Extra cost)

Game drives  -  Accompanied by a local guide. Guests are likely to encounter Black Wildebeest, Zebra, Springbuck (including the unique Black Springbuck), Ostrich, Rhebuck, Steenbuck, Duiker, Fellowdeer and varieties of Blessbuck (including the rare White Blessbuck). (Extra cost)

Gorge hiking  -  Enjoy the sandstone gorge with a refreshing shower under a spring water fall.

Donkey car rides  -  Experience it the way the locals do it.

Canoeing  -  Enjoy our dam and the surrounding scenery.

Hiking  -  Various trails.

A well designed Sandstone Lodge with 11 en-suite bedrooms. Most suites have fireplaces or Queen Ann stoves.

There are also a pool room, honesty bar, library and a sun room available for the guests in the Lodge.

RATES ARE QUOTED:
•  Rates are quoted in South African Rand and are inclusive of VAT @ 15% and tourism levy @1%.
•  Subject to availability.

RATE CHANGES:
•  All rates quoted are subject to change without prior notice, however fully paid bookings will be honoured.
•  All preferred rates are subject to availability and may not apply during special town events/peak periods.
•  Special rates and discounts can NEVER be combined.

RATES INCLUDE:
•  Accommodation in specified room type.
•  Meals as specified in rate.
•  Panoramic scenery by mountain bike as well as various hiking trails.

RATES EXCLUDE:
•  All Bar items such as soft drinks, local & imported beers, spirits, wines, etc.
•  Personal purchases.

CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT:
•  Guests are required to sign an indemnity form on arrival.
•  Check-in is from 14h00 until 18h00 and check-out is before 10h00.
•  Moolmanshoek Gate closes at 18h00.  A late entrance fee of R250 per vehicle will be charged up to 21h00 and R500 for entry until 23h00.

•  Insurance: We recommend that all guests have sufficient travel insurance to cover injury, medical costs, emergency evacuation, repatriation, loss or damage to personal belongings and cancellation.

CHILDREN’S POLICY:
•  Children under the age of 2 stay free of charge with own camping cot, but pay for meals.
•  Children aged 3-11, stay on a mattress and pay R450.00 inclusive of breakfast, but excluding dinner.
•  Children aged 11 and younger pay 75% of adult rate, when staying in their own room.
•  Children aged 13 and above, pay the full adult rate.

PAYMENTS:
•  A deposit of 50% of the total accommodation charge is required for direct bookings.
•  Full payment is required 30 days prior to arrival.
•  Retail Agents and Tour Operators are to prepay in full, unless otherwise arranged.
•  We accept all credit cards, except American Express and Diners.
•  With group bookings and exclusive use of the lodge bookings, a 25% non-refundable deposit is required at the date of confirmation.
•  Full payment 30 days prior to arrival.

Directions:

Moolmanshoek is situated on the R70 road, within viewing distance of Visierkerf, the 7th highest mountain in South Africa.

From Ficksburg
On the Ficksburg / Fouriesburg road, turn left on the R70 to Rosendal for 29 km.

Turn right on the S384 for 7,5 km to Langesnek.

Turn off when you see the Langesnek sign, 300m before the Moolmanshoek entrance.

Suite 2,3,4,8,13 is suitable for parents and a child on a mattress.

Children under 2 years have complimentary accommodation with own camping cot, pay for meals.
