Matatane Wilderness Camp invites guests to embrace a rustic yet comfortable “back to basics” bush experience that captures the essence of the African wilderness.  Spread across 130 hectares of stunning, malaria-free wilderness, the camp is safely enclosed, ensuring a risk-free encounter with dangerous game.  Guests can immerse themselves in a range of activities, including exhilarating walking trails, obstacle courses, and the not-to-be-missed multi-platform zipline, offering awe-inspiring views of the majestic White Umfolozi River and its diverse wildlife, from graceful zebras and wildebeests to elegant impalas and kudus, accompanied by a chorus of vibrant bird species.

Whether gathering under a starlit canopy around the campfire in the traditional boma for a memorable South African braai or venturing through the pristine wilderness, discovering the abundant flora and fauna along the way, Matatane Camp promises an authentic bush experience like no other.

In-Room facilities:
The lodge offers guests a tented camp a choice of tent chalets that can accommodate between 2 to 3 people.  The chalets are furnished with twin beds which can be converted into king-size beds.  Each of the chalets has an en-suite bathroom with a shower, a basin, and a toilet, and amenities such as shower gel, liquid soap, and shampoo are provided.  The chalets are fitted with tea- and coffee-making facilities and opens onto a deck with beautiful views of the bush and surroundings.

Establishment Facilities:
Matatane accommodation includes, two tented villages sleeping 6 per tent on stretches in a catered or self-catered capacity.  Spend your evenings around a crackling fire at the spacious braai area, and on a clear night take in our magnificent view of the Milky Way.

Area Info:

There’s an outdoor adventure for the whole family at Matatane Camp.  Hiking, game viewing, birding and mountain biking are all on offer, and very soon the reserve’s Activity Centre will offer high octane abseiling, zip-lining and rock-jumping.

Attractions:

If you’re after wildlife, there are plenty of animals, birds, butterflies and all sorts of reptiles and invertebrates that call the area home, so bring your binoculars and species lists!

Cancellation Policy:

-  If cancelling 7 days before arrival, forfeit 100% of the booking total.
-  If cancelling 14 days before arrival, forfeit 100% of the deposit.
-  If cancelling 21 days before arrival, forfeit 50% of the deposit.
-  If cancelling 30 days before arrival, forfeit 25% of the deposit.

    PAYMENT POLICY

    • All reservations require a 50% deposit to secure booking date/s

    • All deposits must be paid within 72 hours of making a reservation - failure to receive funds in the stipulated time will result in cancellation of your reservation

    • Full and final settlement of a reservation must be made no later than 14 days before arrival

    • Any reservations made 30-days or less before arrival will require full settlement within 24 hours of making a reservation

    • Payments can be made via bank transfer / electronic funds transfer (eft), online with your VISA debit card, VISA credit card or Mastercard through our online payment portal, which is hosted by PayGate or Cash deposits, however, be aware that cash deposits will attract a fee of 3% of the amount payable.

    The property does not accept cash payments.

Directions:

DIRECTIONS FROM KING SHAKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Your journey to Matatane Lodge is almost complete! Please fill up with petrol at the station located right next to the airport, as the next petrol station is 40km away. There will be three toll gates on the way which require cash or a credit card. The fee ranges from ZAR11.50 to ZAR20.00. From King Shaka, merge onto the N2 North towards Tongaat and travel 79.3km. Take Exit 277 (the Gingindlovu turnoff) for the R66, continue for 800m then turn left onto the R66 towards Gingindlovu / Eshowe/Ulundi. Once on the R66, travel for 103km, then continue onto the R34 for 30.4km. Look out for the Matatane Lodge sign on your left, and turn left onto the access road. Welcome to Matatane Lodge!
