Named in honour of the late Ronald Masango, the region and Viva Safaris’ first-ever Black Camp Manager, Masango Lodge offers a deeply meaningful and highly popular retreat for budget-conscious travellers in Hoedspruit.
The lodge features eight comfortable, en-suite rooms that can be flexibly configured with either king or twin beds. To ensure a seamless and relaxing stay, the lodge operates on a convenient dinner, bed, and breakfast meal plan, allowing guests to focus entirely on their safari adventure. The accommodations are designed for comfort, equipped with air-conditioning, en-suite bathrooms with amenities, towels, and a dedicated tea and coffee station.
Beyond the private rooms, the lodge boasts vibrant communal spaces that foster relaxation and connection. Guests can cool off in the swimming pool, share stories around the traditional boma fire, grab a drink at the bar, or unwind in the lounge and TV room.
The property also features a communal dining area, daily housekeeping, and free Wi-Fi to keep you connected.
Situated within the beautifully watered Motlala Game Reserve, with the perennial Klaserie River running through it, Masango Lodge delivers exceptional wildlife viewing. Plains game like buffalo, nyala, impala, and giraffe are frequent visitors right at the lodge. The surrounding reserve is teeming with biodiversity, playing host to zebra, wildebeest, kudu, and warthogs, alongside four of the iconic Big Five: lion, leopard, buffalo, and both black and white rhino.
Hoedspruit is essentially an agricultural town located a stone’s throw away from the Kruger National Park and is surrounded by game-rich country that makes it an obvious stopover. As a result, what began merely as a couple of shops, a bank and a little rondavel that served as a station building, has grown into what is today marketed as a premier eco-tourist destination because of its association with some of the best Big 5 viewing in South Africa.
