Touws River is a charming railway town located approximately 185 km east of Cape Town, nestled between Barrydale and Ladismith in the Little Karoo. Set on the banks of the Touws River and framed by the Langeberg and Outeniqua Mountains, the town offers a peaceful escape with wide open spaces and breathtaking views. Known as the gateway to Route 62 – the world’s longest wine route – Touws River is rich in natural beauty and biodiversity, featuring fynbos, succulent Karoo, and rare renosterveld vegetation. From July to September, the town comes alive with the vibrant colours of wild Karoo flowers along the national flower route. Despite its origins as a key railway staging post, Touws River has retained its natural charm and offers visitors fascinating sites like the historic Loganda Pillars, once used for astronomical calculations, and the nearby Kagga Kamma Reserve, home to San rock art dating back over 6,000 years.

Karoo 1 Hotel Village is bordering Aquila and therefore we also offer Big 5 game drives. We will transfer (or show you the way) you around the corner and you will encounter Africa’s most beautiful animals in a 2/3 hour game drive. Furthermore, Karoo 1 Hotel Village is perfect for hiking, mountain biking (we have our own tracks), paragliding and rock climbing.

From Cape Town International Airport: 1. Head northwest on Wale Street toward Burg Street for around 350 m 2. Turn right onto Buitengracht Street/M62 and travel for about 1.1 km 3. Continue straight onto Nelson Mandela Boulevard/N1/N2 (signs for M3/Paarl/Cape Town International Airport/Somerset/Muizenberg) for around 900 m 4. Keep left at the fork to continue on N1, following signs for Paarl/Bellville/R27/Milnerton along the toll road for 159 km 5. Look out for the K1 sign on the left-hand side of the N1 and turn left after 800 m 6. Continue straight — the hotel will be on the right-hand side 7.
