Karoo 1 Hotel Village estate is situated at the far southern tip of the Karoo. It is the first farm when coming up the Hex Pass from the Hex River Valley.

The Hotel offers 24 rooms on an active farm propoerty which encompases many activities, including sheep, fruit trees (apricot and cherry), honey and an artisan distillery which produces the Bergerac brandy.

When exploring the property, which used to be called Karbonatjieskraal, one senses the connection of its history with the diamond route. Fortune seekers and diamond prospectors were known to have stopped at the Karbonatjeskraal to buy meat. The old road to the diamond diggings, the old Voortrekker Road, running parallel to the N1, is still used on the Karoo 1 Farm.

Karoo 1 Guest Farm has its own bar and restaurant, has two pools of which one is the renown rock pool. The rock pool is set in the beautiful Kloof and is totally natural. Eagles and baboons will be watching you taking the nicest bath ever.

Area Info:

Touws River is a charming railway town located approximately 185 km east of Cape Town, nestled between Barrydale and Ladismith in the Little Karoo. Set on the banks of the Touws River and framed by the Langeberg and Outeniqua Mountains, the town offers a peaceful escape with wide open spaces and breathtaking views. Known as the gateway to Route 62 – the world’s longest wine route – Touws River is rich in natural beauty and biodiversity, featuring fynbos, succulent Karoo, and rare renosterveld vegetation. From July to September, the town comes alive with the vibrant colours of wild Karoo flowers along the national flower route. Despite its origins as a key railway staging post, Touws River has retained its natural charm and offers visitors fascinating sites like the historic Loganda Pillars, once used for astronomical calculations, and the nearby Kagga Kamma Reserve, home to San rock art dating back over 6,000 years.
