The original wine cellar with meter thick walls, thatch roof and original doors, still boast an impressive wine collection. The building has been lovingly restored to its original glory and exudes the magic of yesteryear.

The Slave Quarters (Standard Rooms):
Cape Dutch Style building, originating in 1723, with beautiful thatch roof has been painstakingly redone to combine authentic historical atmosphere with modern comforts of today. Two communal lounges, honor bar, private courtyard overlooking the orchard and situated next to the salt-water pool.
Room 1:
Downstairs with wooden beamed ceilings, king size bed, under floor heating with large shower and toilet en-suite. Beautiful orchard view.
Room 2:
Downstairs with king size bed, large room with under floor heating, mountain view and separate bathroom en-suite with claw foot bath tub with shower handle.
Room 3:
Top floor, mountain facing with thatch roof and air-conditioning. Queen size bed and beautiful Victorian bath in main bedroom with shower handle. Toilet en-suite.
Room 4:
Top floor views of orchard, mountain, and stunning sunsets. King size bed to sleep peacefully under the thatch roof. Air-conditioned, with Victorian en suite bath with shower handle in private bathroom.
The Executive Suites:
Room 5:
The honeymoon suite has a private staircase leading to spectacular views of mountains, and the pecan orchard. Step onto the balcony and watch the sunset paint magical colors or lounge on the chase reading a classic. Complete with king size bed, air-conditioning, Victorian bath, separate shower, toilet and bidet as well as fully stocked mini bar.
Room 6:
Enter thru the large stoops private entrance, and enjoy the over sized king bed, with opulent bath including over sized shower, toilet, bidet, air-conditioning and under floor heating as well as fully stocked mini bar. Enjoy the large porch for private dining and lounging. This suite has room to accommodate an extra person or child.
Room 7 and 8 (Garden Suites):
Over looking the garden, each room pampers you with a king size bed, fine linens, under floor heat and air-conditioning. The bathroom has a freestanding stone bath for relaxation and oversize shower for two and well stacked mini bar. Private deck for your personal enjoyment.

For those who desire extra space, room Nine has an open plan with fireplace, under floor heating, air conditioning, and private veranda. Furnished with king sized bed, freestanding bath, oversize shower, complete with toilet, bidet and well stocked mini bar. Has inter-leading door to Room 10.
Room 10:
Relax in the freestanding bath with water feature in the king size bedroom. Separate shower for two, under floor heating, air conditioning and television make this suite special. Private entrance, courtyard and mini bar. Has inter-leading door to Room 9.
Van Eeden House (luxury):
This beautiful house was built in the 1800s. Adjacent from the main building, Van Eeden House has newly built suites with private entrances, top of the line fittings and plush furnishings.
Mardouw
Our olive farm just outside Swellendam (R60 between Swellendam and Ashton) is an idyllic venue for exclusive, private group accommodation and intimate celebrations or corporate meetings. The Mardouw Olive Estate and its Manor House were renovated in 2002 by the Verder family.
The Mardouw Country House’s 5 suites (room + private bathroom) can accommodate up to 10 people. Our resident staff is at the ready to cater for all your culinary and housekeeping needs.
Mardouw has a private helicopter landing pad.

Driving up the Garden Route from Cape Town, continue for approximately 180 kilometres, past CALEDON and through the town of Riviersonderend.
After Riviersonderend, continue for about 20 kilometres on the N2 until the town of STORMSVLEI. Turn LEFT onto the R317 (sign posted Stormsvlei / Bonnievale).
Set the trip counter to zero at this point and at 16 kilometers turn RIGHT (sign posted Gelukshoop Pad / Drew).
At 30 kilometers, turn LEFT (sign posted Drew / Swellendam) and cross the low level bridge over the Breede River.
Continue straight until you reach a T-junction (36.5 kilometers, sign posted R60 Ashton / Swellendam).
Turn LEFT onto the R60 to ASHTON.
At 3.8 kilometers turn RIGHT into our farm gate - sign posted Jan Harmsgat Country House.
