Hillside Farm is an established working farm, situated in the stock farming area of the Southern Free State, on the verge of the Great Karoo.

It is ideally located for weary travelers to break their journey between any of the Northern provinces, (or KZN) and the Eastern or Western Cape; or simply as an opportunity for a family to experience Free State farm life.

Accommodation is available in three different sized lodgings: Lens Cottage, Garden View and The Tree House. Located behind a koppie and set in an established garden, our guests can fully appreciate the beauty of the renowned Free State countryside, sunset and expansive sky.

Accommodation at Hillside Farm:
Lens Cottage
As you enter Lens Cottage with its original wooden floors and thick stone walls one has a distinct feeling of stepping back in time. Tastefully decorated, the story of Lens Cottage unfolds visually through the photographs displayed on the cottage walls. Lens Cottage overlooks the rose garden and is tucked into a shaded corner of the garden. It is ideal for honeymooners or couples.

Garden View:
Built as Len and Denises haven in the 1960s . Garden View occupies the upstairs portion of the main house. Furnished with expansive north facing windows, wooden finishings and generous space Garden View is idyllic in both winter and summer.

- Sleeper Porch Bedroom - A unique open air compact twin bedroom with two three quarter beds, Lounge, Kitchenette, Dining Area and much more.

The Tree House
The Tree House occupies the upper two storeys of the eastern end of the main farmhouse. Parquet flooring, slate tiles and homely furnishings envelop guests in comfort and timeless quality. Folding, stacking doors open onto an unrestricted view over the beautiful garden and star lit night sky. The Tree House sleeps a maximum of 6 people.

Activities:

Swimming Pool - Enclosed by a stone wall, the swimming pool is surrounded by aged trees and green lawn. Kids can enjoy the generous size of the pool, large enough for mermaids and Marco Polos - whilst parents lie back and relax in the gazebo.

Tennis Court and Cricket Net - Past the vegetable garden, a tennis court and cricket net invite you to get your blood flowing after your car journey. Guests can bring their own racquets and bats or hire them from reception.

Cycling and Walking - Hillsides unspoilt landscape is ideal for cycling and walking enthusiasts. A gentle stroll to the graveyard gives a peek back in time to the history of Hillside, whilst for the more adventurous there are cross country routes to enjoy.

Viewing Farm Activities - Experience the playful frolicking lambs in spring, which always bring a smile. In summer, guests may feed hans-lammetjies, observe the shearing of woolly sheep or the weighing and marking of our Red Angus calves.

Star Gazing - Seated comfortably on your veranda or atop a picnic blanket on the lawn, witness a clear night sky that astounds those who take the time to observe the wonder of innumerable stars.

For winter: beanie, scarf, warm clothing
For activities: walking/running shoes, bicycle, backpack.

- 50% refund for cancellations made at least 7 days before check-in.
