Hartley House on the Canals is located in the beautiful town of St Francis Bay in the eastern cape. St Francis Bay is the jewel of the Garden Route and is situated approximately one hour from Port Elizabeth.
It is the ideal place to start your journey into the incredible garden route or to come and relax and enjoy the wonders of St Francis Bay and surrounding areas.

We have mountain bikes for you to rent and have a guide that can take you for a ride through the pristine landscapes, Please don’t forget to pack your own cycling shoes.
If you enjoy beach walks we have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world right here on our doorstep, there are beautiful walks on the river too. Early morning walks on the river watching the sun come up is the perfect way to start your day.
Are you a fishing enthusiast? If so we have it all, The canals just for bit of fun or the river for the slightly more adventurous. Surf fishing for those who love spending time on the shore, We have all fishing equipment available for you to rent for the canals, the river, and surf fishing. Spear Fishing is also an incredible way to explore under the sea in St Francis. If you are into deep-sea fishing then we can arrange a charter with one of the local fishing charter companies. The deep-sea fishing in St Francis Bay is some of the best in South Africa. A great active way to get around the canals is to Paddle.
One can also paddle up the Kromme river or surf-ski paddling in the ocean for the more adventurous. We have a variety of SurfSkis and life jackets for you to rent for whatever you chose. If you prefer to Stand up paddle then you can do that too, there are a variety of companies that rent out Stand up Paddle boards in the area.
Should you be a golf enthusiast then you are spoilt for choice as we have two beautiful golf courses, The St Francis bay links and the local st francis bay golf club.
Canal and River Cruises are the highlight for most visitors to St Francis Bay and can be booked with Hartley houses very own canal cruiser that can accommodate up to to 16 of you and your friends. Whether you take a shorter canal cruise or one encompassing the canals and the Kromme River, it will be an unforgettable experience. Should you wish to go skiing or wakeboarding we have a ski boat that can take you and your friends up river for a morning of action on the river.
A visit to our delightful harbour, Port St Francis, is a must. Here, one can view the excitement of our local fishing boats as they load up to go to sea or unload their catch of the day. Also watch the activities around the Chokka boats while you enjoy a great meal at different restaurants on offer at the port.
No matter what type of break you want St Francis bay has it all, Hartley House is a wonderful stop-over for guests going on to Addo Elephant Park which is only 140km from St Francis. or prior to flying out of Port Elizabeth on the final leg of their journey to South Africa.
