Explore a meandering path through an ancient Milkwood Forest, where thousand-year-old trees send exploratory branches in search of sunlight, or visit one of the remnant Afro-Montane Forests on the reserve.
Young and old can explore this natural wonderland on foot or by 44 drive vehicle, or take a horse ride to enjoy the views from the elevation of a comfortable saddle on a well schooled horse or pony.
Outdoor eco adventures at Grootbos and in Gansbaai provide a valuable means of helping with conservation efforts whilst creating a relaxing holiday experience for our guests.
Grootbos is home to two 5-star sanctuaries - Garden and Forest Lodge. Set amongst ancient Milkwood trees, our eco-friendly accommodation consists of large, private One- or Two-bedroom Luxury Suites.
Each free-standing suite is set in tranquil surroundings where guests have the chance to unwind amidst the splendours of nature. From each luxury suite you can admire the sunsets over the Ocean or start the day in tune with the forest birds.
Occasionally your attention will be captured by the hawks and raptors that hunt for prey in the fields below your private terrace. All suites comprise a lounge with fireplace, airy bedroom with en-suite bathroom and wooden decks with spectacular sea views.
They are equipped with extra length beds, 100% down duvets and cotton bedding, a safe, tea & coffee making facilities and minibars. Spacious, finely appointed bathrooms complete the feeling of utter indulgence. Carefully selected natural textures and colours bring the harmony of nature into your suite.
Winding pathways will guide you through some of the last Milkwood Forests in the world while strolling between your suite and the main lodges.

- Rates include VAT @ 15% and are quoted in SA Rand (subject to changes).
- Rates exclude Conservation Contribution of R 200.00 per adult per night.
- All reservations require a 25% deposit upon confirmation of the booking to be paid within 7 days. Grootbos reserves the right to cancel the booking should payment not be received.
- Final payment needs to be made 30 days prior to guests’ arrival. Grootbos reserves the right to cancel the booking should payment not be received.
- For last minute reservations, full payment is required upon confirmation!
- All requests, confirmations and cancellations only valid if in writing.
- Provisional bookings will only be held for 7 days as stated on the provisional confirmation; thereafter the booking will automatically be released.
- Rates are not guaranteed until the booking is confirmed.
- We strongly recommend a minimum stay of 2 nights throughout the year.

From Cape Town:
Take the N2 from Cape Town, past the Airport to Somerset West. Either follow the N2 over Sir Lowrys Pass turning on to the R43 after the Houhoek Pass, or take the R44 along the coast and turn onto the R43 to Hermanus. Drive through Hermanus, Grootbos is situated 13km past Stanford on the R43.
