Galenia Estate - On arrival our visitors are inevitably surprised to discover that we are truly nestled up close to the Langeberg Mountains that rise up behind the property and because of our elevated location we also enjoy the far flung vistas of the Klein Karoo.

The Galenia estate is 1300 acres (550 hectares) of unique and indigenous Western Cape fynbos and renosterbos with small areas of agriculture, gardens and grazing watered from the kloofs of the Langebergs, the Boontjiesrivier, which runs through the estate, and our five large dams.

We have a number of nature trails established on the estate and encourage our guests to walk, trek, jog, stroll or cycle them to enjoy the remarkable views and the wide variety of indigenous plants and flowers growing there.

The dams are a magnet for birds and wildfowl and we also have a number of wild (but habituated) ostriches on the property as well as a number of wild animal species.

About Us:
Galenia Estate was originally one of the first farms to be settled in the area, long before the Cogmans Pass was blasted out in 1877.

Originally called Boontjiesrivier (Little Bean River) it has had a number of incarnations during its long history. Most recently the estate was owned by a Belgian family who constructed the guest house and planted the olive grove, but they sold it in 2015 to the Bailey family of British decent who have been involved in Africa with major investments in Tanzania for over 50 years.

The small but active and enthusiastic team of professionals maintain the estate, nurture and harvest the olives and provide warm and welcoming hospitality.

Ideally located for excursions to the Robertson Wine Valley, the Breede River, the Koo Valley and the Klein Karoo, many guests are discovering that an overnight is not enough and two nights also leaves a reason to return. Our guests rather like the idea of having a day or two without driving and to settle into the unspoilt nature of the estate and its activities, or relaxing by the pool or in the Jacuzzi, inspecting the olive grove or a quiet afternoons bird watching at one of the dams.

Accommodation at Galenia Estate:
Main House
The main focus of the property is the Estate House which in fact was a renovation of one of the original barns on the estate. Its contemporary Cape Dutch design incorporates many of the features of a typical lang skuur with a ceiling of whole tree trunks, gables with windows and a deep stoep overlooking the estate.

Set out as a spacious and comfortable sitting room with accompanying glass - enclosed dining stoep the main house is the hospitality centre of the estate where guests can feel at home whilst being cared for by our willing, friendly and well trained host family.

Guest Suites
There are just ten guest suites on the estate, arranged in five thatch roofed cottages. They are all of a similar design and standard, enjoying spectacular views over the olive grove or the lake in the foreground and to the far flung horizons of the Klein Karoo.

Each suite has a spacious double or twin bedded room, complete with all modern day facilities such as wifi, dstv, security safe, refrigerator, tea and coffee maker, as well as an open log fire and comfortable lounge seating. It also has a well-furnished, spacious, covered stoep (veranda) overlooking indigenous planted gardens. The bathroom has a free standing bath, an outside shower and a separately enclosed WC.

As most guests are self-driving an added benefit is to be able to drive to and park alongside each suite.

***We are not able to accommodate children under 12 years old due to unfenced pool and Jacuzzi and also wild ostriches and do not allow pets on the property as there is a considerable amount of wildlife.***
