Blyde River Cabins - At these private log cabins, situated within a wildlife conservancy and on the fringe of a critically endangered riverine forest with the constant sound of the perennial Blyde river you can find total relaxation and unwind from your daily stresses and routine. This is an ideal setting for a family breakaway, romantic weekend or as a base camp from which to explore the Blyde River Canyon and Kruger National Park with all their surrounding attractions. On-site we offer activities such as guided forest or bush walks and game or night drives.
The exclusive cabins are fully equipped, sleeps between four and six persons and has self-contained ablutions, DSTV, air conditioners, secure undercover parking, private braai areas, and a jungle gym and sand pit. One of the cabins has a private splash pool / jacuzzi on the deck. Children of all ages are welcome but please remember the cabins are not fenced and wild animals traverse the surrounding area.
From your private deck overlooking the river you can relax and admire your surroundings or scan the bush in search of the endangered and elusive pels fishing owl or other resident fauna surrounding the cabin. Hippo, otter, leopard, crocodile, bush babies, baboon, waterbuck, bushbuck, giraffe, kudu, impala, warthog and spotted hyena have all been seen and or heard from the deck. with signs of other more elusive creatures leopard, pels fishing owl and wood owl ever present. The area is also home to some special birds such as the pels fishing owl, african finfoot, half collared kingfisher and african black duck. There are also white backed and hooded vultures breeding in the large Matumi trees in the riverine forest.

We offer the following onsite activities: birding, bush walks, game drives, fishing, photographic safaris and children’s bush activities. The cabins are well situated for easy access to a myriad of other activities available in the area (a full list is available in the cabin or alternatively contact us for the list) and is a mere stone’s throw away from the world-renowned Kruger National Park. There are over 60 different activities in the surrounding area including day trips to Kruger National Park, abseiling, white water rafting, elephant interaction, hot air ballooning, helicopter flips, boat trips, swimming under a waterfall, wildlife rehabilitation centers and more. Come and enjoy a memorable holiday, relax under the large trees in a hammock, have some alone time in the silence that abounds or sit around the fire in the evening and relate stories from another fun-filled day in the African bush.
Be sure to bring a hat, sunscreen and shoes that can get wet if you plan to explore the riverine forest.
In winter the evenings and early mornings can get chilly so bring warms clothes, a beanie and gloves.
The private and exclusive wooden cabins overlook the Blyde River and come fitted with air conditioning, a lounge area with sofa, a flat-screen satellite TV and a fully equipped kitchen. We currently have four and six sleeper units. The Luxury four sleeper cabin has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, one with a large bath and shower, the other with a large shower. This unit also has a private splash pool / jacuzzi on the deck. The ‘Cosy’ six sleeper unit has three bedrooms and two bathrooms with showers.
If cancelling 30 days before arrival, forfeit 100% of the booking total.
Please follow below directions and not a GPS navigator as it might take you down the wrong access road. From Hoedspruit Town: Drive west out of Hoedspruit on the R527 (Lydenburg road) for 8km Turn right onto the D240 Essex gravel road (Jessica Hippo road) Drive 8km to the Blyde River low water bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the signs for 4km to Blyde River Cabins.
