The Birkenhead is a mere seven minute walk from the beach, with all it has to offer. For the adrenaline junkies there's windsurfing, kiteboarding and jetskiing. For the more passive, there are long scenic walks, fishing or simply soaking up the sun on the beach.

There are a wide variety of restaurants along the beachfront. Enjoy sundowners and the views over the ocean to Table Mountain while you dine. Have a drink at one of the traditional English pubs in the area, or socialise in one of the local South African beach type bars. There are two shopping centres within walking distance from the guesthouse if you want to do a bit of shopping. Catch a movie at the Bayside Shopping Centre, a ten minute walk from the guesthouse.

If you enjoy bird watching, the Rietvlei Wetland Reserve has a bird-hide. It is perfectly positioned for the best viewing of small migrant waders. The dunes along the seaside of the reserve provide an excellent vantage point for whale-watching in the winter months. Remember to take your camera as the views across the bay to Table Mountain make Rietvlei a photographer's paradise.

The Manor is within easy reach of central Cape Town and its many tourist attractions including Table Mountain, The Victoria and Albert Waterfront and Cape Point nature reserve; and is also within easy access to the famed Wine Routes of the Cape and the West Coast, which combines excellent fishing, natural parks and whale watching. A Virgin Active gym and two excellent golf courses are within a few minutes drive.

Directions:

Directions to the Birkenhead Manor Boutique Guest House from Cape Town International Airport

- Take the N2 motorway for Cape Town City
- Remain on the N2 motorway until you get to the off-ramp to Paarl marked N1
- Drive in the direction of Paarl from Cape Town until you see the R27. This road is called Otto Du Plessis Drive
- Remain on this road past the Milnerton Golf Course up to Flamingo Vlei on your right.
- At the next set of traffic lights turn left into Marine Drive then take the first right into Visagie Road then take the 2nd left turn into Popham Road and then the 1st left into Birkenhead Road and we are at number 23.
- This trip should take you no longer than about 30 minutes.
