Our Bella de Karoo Guesthouse is an old barn that was converted into exquisite guest units. A lot of care was taken to keep the old worldly charm of this very unique building.
Here you will still find the traditional wooden floors, rietdak and thick old walls that can withstand any Karoo temperature. All of the units have their own en-suite bathroom facilities.
When you make your reservation at our guesthouse, we can pack you a picnic basket from our restaurant menu and your choice of wine. On arrival you can enjoy your dinner and ice cold wine while watching the most beautiful Karoo sunset from your terrace.
At Bella de Karoo we also have a boma where you can enjoy your braai/barbeque. We do supply our guests with meat, salads and bread at an extra charge. Our guesthouse is child-friendly with green lawns, farm animals, and a traditional dam/water tank to swim in. As I am sure you know, the Klein Karoo is known for its beautiful starry skies, that is why we have purposefully not installed televisions in the guesthouse rooms. (We do have wi-fi facilities).

While staying at Bella de Karoo guesthouse, there are many outdoor activities like walking and cycling. Come and visit us to navigate the many remote dirt-roads with your mountain-bike, hike the veld and experience the richness of the Little Karoo floral kingdom. Go on a cellar-tour at the world-famous Boplaas, De Krans and other port cellars. Come and experience the awe of the world famous Red Mountain, Swartberg Pass and Die Hel.

The typical little Karoo town of Calitzdorp lies on Route 62, about a four-hour drive from Cape Town and roughly halfway to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). Calitzdorp is renowned in its own right for a number of reasons, not least of which is its bona fide Klein Karoo character. The little town is home to a variety of quaint lodges, guest farms and B&Bs in the Karoo, where the pace is slower and the landscapes endless. Calitzdorp’s beauty is also largely attributable to the fact that it is bounded on three sides by mountain ranges – the Swartberg, the Rooiberge and the mountains of the Huisrivier Pass – that shelter the town and add to its character.
