Named after a rocky outcrop of the north coast believed to have been used by Shaka, the great Zulu chief, as a lookout, Shaka’s or Chaka’s Rock - depending to whom you are speaking - is today a growing residential village and a wonderfully graceful stretch of sandy beach that is home to an inviting tidal pool flanked by craggy cliffs. There are those who believe that the rock was actually used by Shaka to test the mettle of his men, by encouraging them to jump to their deaths, but the surfing fraternity definitely don?t believe that Shaka’s Rock measures up to its majestic or noble name, referring to the few reefs and beach breaks as fun, nothing more. The beach is a preferred ski-boat launch site, so come prepared to watch some impressive launchings and beaching as some of the bigger boats set out on deep sea fishing trips. Shaka’s Rock, or Catfish Beach as the main beach here is known, is only about 40 kilometres north of Durban and right next to Ballito. From Willard beach at Ballito one can follow a rugged walking trail to Shaka’s Rock itself through a hole in the cliff - probably a good idea to attempt this at low tide. Ballito is a popular holiday town which has grown exponentially. We boast pristine beaches and warm waters where you can see the dolphins frolic in the waves daily and the whales during their season of migration (July to November). Our beaches have shark nets and most have lifeguards. Fishing is also available with a permit. There are several shopping malls in close proximity and many restaurants and entertainment attractions. King Shaka Airport is a mere 20 min drive. The area also has three superb golf courses nearby. There is also a wildlife reserve for game drives and nature trails close by. Come enjoy the sun, sand and sea.

* Any dishes left uncleaned or if the house is left excessively dirty, or towels are excessively dirty, charges will be deducted off deposit accordingly.
