Arniston is situated at the foot of Africa and is sandwiched between two nature reserves. As you drive from the town of Caledon, famed for its hot springs, you’ll drive through the rolling hills of the Overberg to Bredasdorp, a good place to buy groceries and fuel if you’re staying in Arniston. The town also offers squash, tennis and horse-riding and has an interesting Shipwreck Museum which is well worth a visit. De Hoop Nature Reserve is a protected Cape Floral region and World Heritage Site. De Mond Nature Reserve is small but perfect. This beautiful coastal nature reserve, named for its siting at the mouth of a river, is one of the Western Cape’s natural gems.
There is so much to do in Arniston. The family-friendly sandy beaches are all within walking distance of the cottages and are safe for swimming. You can go snorkelling in the warm and welcoming sea and the surfing is popular. The fishing here is excellent. There are beautiful walks on the endless unspoilt coastline. The whale watching is of the best and you are sure to spot the Southern Right whale frolicking in the turquoise-coloured sea. You may want to indulge in a traditional dinner in Kassiesbaai where guests are invited for an evening meal in one of the fishermen’s houses. Less than a 40 minute walk from the cottages is the most incredible natural feature, Waenhuiskrans Cave, an enormous sea cave which is only accessible at low tide.

For high season, our B Cottage (sleeps 4) and C Cottage (sleeps 2) are only available together. They share a courtyard with its undercover barbecue facility.

If you’re travelling to Arniston from Cape Town, you can take the N2, which runs up the scenic Sir Lowry’s Pass. You will pass the apple orchards of Grabouw and then drive through the beautiful rolling hills of the Overberg. When you reach the coast, you will have arrived in Arniston, one of the world’s best hideaways. As you enter Arniston you are in Huxton road, you will notice the reception area in the front where you can collect the keys to the cottages which us behind the reception area.
