The Royal Show Grounds are situated about 2 km away and the Victoria Country Club, which is one of the best golf courses in Natal, is approximately 5 km away.
We have now been firmly placed on the mountain biking map with the World Champs having been held in Pietermaritzburg. First class mountain bike trails are plentiful in and around Pietermaritzburg, including those at Cedara, Cascades, Worlds view, Fern hill, Garlick Timbers, Karkloof, Howick, Bisley nature reserve, Cumberland nature reserve and Midmar nature reserve. The start of the Comrades Marathon and the Umashova is only 2 km away and the start of the Duzi Canoe Marathon is a short 5 minute drive away.
Two major dams, Midmar Dam and Albert Falls, are both easy 25 minutes drives away, where the world famous Midmar Mile is held. Fantastic bass fishing and varied water sports are popular at both dams.
The famous Midlands Meander arts and crafts route, which includes numerous and varied country restaurants, is easy to access in the vicinity of Midmar Dam and the nearby village of Howick. The spectacular Howick Falls and Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve are highly recommended in Howick. A short drive from Howick is the birders paradise of Karkloof, which also features the acclaimed Karkloof Canopy Tour. The Karkloof classic is one of the country’s largest mountain bike races, which attracts many of the top riders and thousands of participants.
Art in the park & cars in the park are also popular events in Pietermaritzburg, attracting collectors of art and vintage cars. In short, this is the perfect destination for those visiting Pietermaritzburg for sporting events, arts and crafts, special occasions or to do business.
