De Kelders is a charming coastal village on the shores of Walker Bay in the Western Cape, South Africa. Its name - Dutch for “the cellars” - comes from the natural limestone caves that are carved into the cliffs, some with archaeological finds dating back to the Middle Stone Age. The area is peaceful and largely undeveloped, offering a more relaxed vibe than larger tourist hubs, yet it’s rich in dramatic scenery and marine life. The region is famed for its world-class land-based whale watching, especially from June to December when southern right whales come close to shore to calve and mate. The nearby Walker Bay Nature Reserve and coastal trails provide excellent opportunities for walking, birdwatching and taking in sweeping ocean views, while the historic Klipgat Cave and other natural attractions make the area a fascinating blend of nature, history and outdoor adventure just a short drive from Gansbaai and Hermanus.

* Non-paying visitors are only allowed by prior arrangement, and a limit of 4 visitors will be allowed.
* No visitors may stay after midnight.
