In Durban North situated on the banks of the Umgeni River, is the Umgeni Bird Park, which offers walkways and hides for close-up views of colourful birds from around the world.

Amanzimtoti Bird Sanctuary

A captivating self-guided trail winds through the forest. There are 3 hides from which one may see many of the 150 species of bird which visit the large expanse of open water in the Sanctuary.

Krantzkloof Nature Reserve

It is the spectacular meeting place of two river gorges, the Molweni and Nqutu. Zebra, different species of busk, monkey and over 200 species of birdlife. Plenty of nature walks.

Stainbank Nature Reserve

New Germany Nature Reserve

A well-preserved area comprising remnant coastal bush, grassland and protea communities. A delightful reserve with various types of buck, birdlife and vegetation typical of the region.

From the N3 take the off-ramp to enter St Johns Road. Cross the bridge over the freeway then take the first turn to the right into old main road. Turn left into Eskom Road, then right into Mountain Ridge Road and left into Gilbert Drive, which leads into the reserve.

Palmiet Nature Reserve

Situated in the Palmiet River Valley around rugged krantzes. The reserve covers a wide range of vegetation from riverine forest along the Palmiet River to grassland on the upper slopes. There is abundant birdlife

From Durban on the M13, take the Rockdale-Jan Hofmeyr Road turn-off, go left over the bridge, continuing along Jan Hofmeyr Road for about 1,5 km. Just before the Westville hotel turn into David Mcclean drive on the right. The reserve entrance is at the bottom of this road on the right.

Paradise Valley Nature Reserve
