The Namib – pale green shrubs and trees on the banks of dry rivers against the backdrop of reddish mountains of sand. In Gondwana Namib Park (100 km²) the ‘fossilised’ dunes of the ancient Namib meet the active ones of the young Namib. To the west a sea of dunes extends as far as the eye can see; to the east vast plains reach out to distant mountains. Watch solitary Gemsbok, Springbok and Ostrich on the plains. Try to unravel the mystery of the fairy circles, the large bald patches in the grass; or drive 60 km south and visit Sesriem Canyon and near-by Sossusvlei which boasts the highest dunes on earth.
The main building and the chalets of Namib Desert Lodge are spread out along the foot of the fossilised dunes of the ancient Namib. A comfortable sojourn is guaranteed by 60 en suite rooms. A restaurant and bar, an inviting terrace with views of the fossilised dunes and two swimming pools beckon you to linger and relax. Oryx antelope and springbok make frequent appearances at our illuminated watering place. Shaded camping sites under acacia trees at the bank of a dry riverbed are available for campers.
Discover the fossilised dunes, the red dunes above the plateau and the many other wonders of the Namib Desert on this drive around Gondwana Namib Park.

Warm and friendly welcome. Some of the huts are quite a distance from the parking area and there were no trollies to assist. Food was good.
