We spent a wonderful 3 nights at Witsand enjoying the peace and tranquility of the environment. We had a luxury chalet for 6 persons all to ourselves (just the two of us), a fabulous braai area, as well as a large bird bath from which many birds and also animals drank from. Each night we were visited by a spotted genet who seemed to think this was his/her home. We spent hours at the bird hide spotting and photographing many of the northern cape birds, notably the violet eared waxbill, the Diederik cuckoo and of course many Namaqua doves. We hoped the Namaqua sandgrouse would visit the waterhole but sadly they stayed away. The manager and staff (John, Magnolia and Jan) were extremely hospitable and assisted us at all times. Thank you to Mariechen who did the booking for us and Ilze who helped us to check in. We will definitely return to this beautiful isolated spot, Witsand, where the sands are either snow white or blood red (Kalahari sands).

Excellent service all round. Excellent accommodation! Excellent staff - very helpful and kind. Only one slight negative. Needed some light bulbs to be replaced and new aircon control batteries. We loved it - definitely a hidden gem! Thanks to your whole team.

We were sorry, not hearing the roaring sand.

The only bad thing was the fact that one needs to travel between 45 and 74 km of gravel (dirt) road to get. The gravel road from the Groblerhoop/Griekwastad side was with the exception of a few bad patches relatively in good condition, however the road from the reserve to Olifantshoek was very bad if fact our vehicle is a 4 x 4 fitted with all terrain tyres, nevertheless we had the bad fortune that one tyre was ripped open and cannot be repaired.
As we arrived on the Sunday afternoon at about 16h30 the curio shop was closed so that we could not buy cool drinks etc. Overall however accommodation was very good and we could enjoy a much needed rest and nights sleep.

At visitors centre we were really welcomed and got good info from the desk man. The bungalow ( not to be compared with the luxurious bigger guest houses) was small, rather hot ( well it is the Karoo after all), but clean, excellent beds and bedding and near the facilities ( kitchen well equipped and toilets and showers). We enjoyed the calm, and sitting outside at night with the incredible stars and some "strange" noises around us, enjoying a simple meal and a glass of wine made this Witsand stay the TOP of our 21 days holidays in South Africa.
The gravel road from the main road towards Kimberley is easily doable for a small car, no need for a 4x4. The park itself is interesting too. And so remote there are no busloads of tourists. We were very satisfied.

Witsand is a hidden gem for those who like nature. We had a lot of "visitors" - especially in the mornings and evenings - at our "waterhole" and appreciated very much the close contact to all the animals.
The Chalets are big and comfortable.

Witsand was a total surprise. Beautiful scenery, reasonably priced wonderful friendly staff and we enjoyed our stay. If I ever visit there again, I will pick different accommodation. Although I knew that the bungalow will be small, it was just a tad too small for us. Nothing wrong or insufficient but I will in future choose a chalet. A lovely and extraordinary place.

Witsand was beautiful. The campsites were clean as were the ablutions. Fellow campers were friendly and respectful. One thing that must be mentioned is the extreme temps in the height of summer and that the shop had run out of water to drink. The dunes were spectacular however they did not "roar" for us - maybe it was the time of day we went. Well worth the detour and the night wildlife came very close to our camp.

We had great difficulty in reaching you as the road was very bad after the rains and on one stage the water was so deep that it took me up to my knees when I walked through to see if my car would make it. Luckily I drive a 4 x 4 Suzuki which managed to make it although I did get stuck but with luck we got out !!!

Accommodation is excellent; really " value for money". The shop is a mess; its not even basics what are available there.
People are strangely unfriendly and disinterested; but, obviously, they do their job otherwise chalets wouldn't be so tidy.
In genera: we enjoyed staying there very much.
A piece of advice: tell the youth at the conference enter ( or camp ? ) to behave. They were very noisy till deep in the night.
