This is a very different type of park and the emphasis is on the geology rather than the wildlife. 4x4 an absolute must. Great way to get away from it all.

Wonderful time. Often visit the Richtersveld, but I think that the monkeys that invade tents searching for food at Pootjiespram needs some urgent attention.

THe accommodation was rustic. No toilet paper in the toilets and cold water.
However the abloutions were very clean.
There are no assigned camping sites so you can pitch wherever you want. We had some idiots pitch camp right in front of the abloution block so everytime you needed to do something, you walked through their camp.

The reception area to the park leaves a lot to be desired.
The staff and facilities there need to be improved.
Credit card facilities not available.
SANP need to pay more attention to providing better maps for this area, especially as it is such demanding terrain.
A regular check is necessary monitoring all vehicles going in and out of the park. There was a truck broken down blocking the road which remained there for both days we were there.

Stayed at Sendelingsdrift. Aircon not operating / Braai stand full of ash / Fridge making terrible noise - switch off to sleep / Bedding not fresh like other places we sleep at / Fan in main bedroom but not in 2nd bedroom.

There was a limited number of cooking utensils and cutlery. The Air Conditioner was on but not cooling there seemed to be a warning light for the compressor. Fortunately it wasn't too hot. The room was not serviced once during my stay.

Room and facilities beautiful and tasteful. The ostrich sosatie and apple pie we had for dinner were totally delicious!

Suggest a refuse bin in the little lounge area too.

The ablution facilities need a bit more attention (blocked toilets). It is also difficult to carry all the rubbish along for a week, seeing that the vehicles are normally packed to capacity. Overall the campsites and chalets are stunning. We had a wonderful stay, and would like to comment on the helpfulness and friendliness of the people working there.

We stayed at the Hoop on the 2008-03-24 till the 27th. There were the following problems - as we arrived, we could hardly find a spot to camp - too much campers. We counted more than 20 families. (I have heard that sometimes campers for the Richtersberg does not go all the way, and then overnights at De Hoop). This poses a problem for us who has actually booked.
The ablutions (men's toilet) had no running water and after every use, there was a hygienic problem. Also, there is no caretaker on the premises that could take care of the problem.
Please make the visitors more aware of their duty - to keep the place clean, no littering, to remove own litter and to use the toilets decently. Make people aware that they definitely need a 4 x 4 vehicle with low rage for eg the Akkedispas.

Otherwise we loved the place and hope it will be conserved for the future.
