The location is Fantastic! The beach is great for snorkeling, swimming, fishing, boating etc. The accommodation however is poor. The appliances and furniture are very old and in serious need of replacement. The tuck shop has the potential to supply basic needs, such as eggs, milk, ice etc, but is very badly managed and constantly has empty shelves!

We really enjoyed our stay at Cape Vidal. The area is beautiful. It would be helpful to provide guests with more information on the cottage and the area e.g. no of beds per room, mossie spray needed, a lot of monkeys in the camp area, provide a map for the park, animals in the area etc.

The oven did not have any numbers on the dials so it was difficult to tell how hot it was when cooking, a grater is needed in the cottage.

The cabin needs a bit of attention and the cutlery, stove are not in very good condition. Would be nice to put in additional toilet for when one of the 8 is in the bathroom.
But the nature was very beautiful and perfect

We had a wonderful holiday with perfect weather. The only negatives were the bat faeces and urine on the balcony of the cabin. Cabin was a bit run down but we were on the beach or game drives most of the time so did not spend too much time in there anyway. Nice to see that the cabins are being upgraded. The monkeys kept us amused with their antics and the beach is incredible. Will most definitely return next year.

Only real problem was the very outrageous behavior of some of the saman go monkeys - coming into our cabin, while we were there, to take fruit and a loaf of bread. Sounds funny after the event, but quite startling at the time. This necessitated us keeping all doors and windows closed while we were home, made us feel like prisoners and explained the slightly musty smell.
Cabin itself was good, and well equipped. Beach fabulous. Whole place beautiful.

We had a wonderful time, the accommodation is very basic and rustic and very tired, but we went with few expectations so were not disappointed. Monkeys are a problem, but as long as you keep all doors and windows closed, all is well. The game drive in is fabulous with wonderful sightings of rhino and teems of other wildlife and birdlife. We advise to take lots of 5litre bottles of water as drinking water is unsafe. The beds are VERY comfortable.

Even though the log houses are no longer close to today’s standards, it’s a marvelous site to stay. Friendly staff and the promise to upgrade the log houses fairly soon will definitely let you come back. The beach is just great and swimming is wonderful - pay close attention to the severe currents, in particular during high tide. Make sure you bring your own supplies or go fishing, as the store has very limited stock.

Our stay at Cape Vidal was very good. I would like to point out a few things. 1. The cafe was a disappointment. It has an opportunity to a great business if managed well. There was not any fresh milk, bread or even sugar during the week. 2. I would also like to see a fridge keeping fresh bait for the anglers. It is a mission to drive out to St. Lucia if you have limited freezing facilities while camping. 3. Build-in braai for each campsite stand would be nice. Thank you for a nice holiday - we will be back!

Few suggestions: Since the monkeys are such a problem, can't mesh or something been put onto the windows. At least you can get fresh air in without worrying that the monkeys come in. We did not have a tin opener maybe that can be added. The shop can maybe have newspapers. Excellent place for holiday will go there again.

Definitely one of the best (if not THE best) reserves in SA.

A pity there are no guided tours so one can experience it more "deeply". Also a pity there's no "gause" wire protection inside the windows to keep monkeys, mosquitoes and other kreepy craulies out.

All in all a wonderful experience which I'd strongly recommend to anyone - the reserve must be the most beautiful of its kind on the planet!

I had stayed 8 years ago with fond memories and on booking again, I was concerned to read numerous unfavourable comments on the Net, particularly about the state of the chalets. We were bringing our elderly mothers this time so were a bit concerned. However, I have to say that we had a delightful stay. Cape Vidal is a wonderful mix of contrasting ecosystems in close proximity - the game was a pleasant surprise as there had clearly been additions since our last visit.

The staff were friendly, the chalet fine and all in all, it was a lovely stay. We only regretted that we had only booked 2 nights. An added bonus - after 10 years in rural Africa, I had never seen a bush pig until several came rooting round our chalet one evening.

Thanks for a wonderful stay - please don't make the mistake of modernising it.

The log cabins are quite worn out and need to be up dated. Fans missing in some rooms, the walls and ceilings quite dirty, kitchen equipment not working that well and so on. The windows should have some mosquito and burglar protection so they could stay open to get a better ventilation in the house.
Otherwise it is a very nice place and we enjoined the stay very much.

For an overseas visitor the location was very good and the positioning of individual chalets was very sympathetic to peace and quiet. We found the staff consistently friendly and helpful which was nice to experience. Our one major complaint was the standard to the bath and shower facilities. Before we visit again I would get our local friends to visit to check this out and would certainly advise our overseas friends in Switzerland and UK to do the same. Shame really and prevented us scoring the establishment any higher.
