Health and Climate:
The climate in the region is arid and the sea breeze is cooled by the Benguela current whose cold fertile water supports an abundance of marine life. The area around the Lagoon (30 000 ha) was proclaimed a National Park in 1985 and is home to one of the world's largest populations of sea birds. In summer thousands of waders migrate here. The off-shore islands offer safe breeding sites for many species notably the Cape Gannet and the rare African Oyster Catcher. At certain times of the year pink-winged Flamingos and graceful Pelicans also visit this haven which is an ornithologist's paradise.
Activities:

Beach and Nature Walks
To the north, there is 5 kilometers of sandy beach walks. There is also a beautiful cliff side walk to Club Mykonos. Along the way look for the dassie families "rock rabbits" soaking up the sun from their granite boulder homes.

Club Mykonos Casino & Resort
is a Greekstyled village built on the waters edge and there are enough facilities to keep you busy for a while. They include 262 slot machines, Pontoon, four restaurants, two bars, boat cruises, yachting and watersports.

Watersports
are a major attraction in Langebaan, with the ocean only a stones throw away, to enjoy it is an open invitation for any water propelled activity your body might yearn for. Please be aware that skinny dipping is allowed as long as you do not get caught out!

West Coast National Park
is a haven for lovers of ecology and nature and is a Ramsar site with a myriad of flora and fauna. The park is home to over 250 bird species and spans a great distance between Langebaan and Yzerfontein along the lagoon. Day visitors are welcome to drive, hike and cycle along the roads and paths to enjoy viewing birds in their natural habitat and watch the spring flower spectacle.

West Coast Fossil Park
is an area where miners discovered preserved fossils that are millions of years old. Together with Iziko Museum in Cape Town, a 14ha fossil-rich area within the mine property was declared a national Monument and the fossil park now brings the fascinating science of paleontology to the public.

Langebaan Country Club
a game of golf can be played at which is a links-type course, designed as a figure 8 winding around residential stands. The 18-hole championship course is 6185m long and affords golfers views of the lagoon, the surrounding hills and granite outcrops.
