The beautiful, rustic but luxurious camp is built from timber felled and milled in the Table Mountain National Park
Following the principal of “Touching the earth lightly”, only previously damaged sites were selected, and the design ensures minimum environmental impact.
Smitswinkel Camp provides hot water, open fires, and a fully equipped kitchen for self catering clients.
The camp links up as accommodation on route on the Hoerikwaggo Trail - a 5 day and 4 night hike from Cape Town to Cape Point or vice versa. However, if you wish to simply experience spending a night at this tented camp, book the accommodation and use it as a base from where you can enjoy all the Cape Point outdoor activities.
The camp is situated about 300m outside from the entrance gate to the Cape Point along Plateau Road close to Smithswinkel Bay. The name Smitswinkel (‘the blacksmith’s shop’) was given to this pretty little bay because of two rocks that jut out of the sea which resemble an anvil and a bellows. The bay is reached by a steep footpath.
Be Aware: there are baboons in the vicinity and when given the opportunity they will enter the tent and destroy property and personal belongings.

Smitswinkel Tented Camp (TMNP) Map:
It's a very good starting point for the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Due to the windy weather conditions during night we could not sleep very well in the tent. The gates get closed between 6 pm and 7 am. I see this as a big disadvantage.
Lovely place to relax. We enjoyed our stay.
The facilities were of a high standard and the staff were very pleasant. We felt safe and the tents had everything we needed. Even the mattresses were comfortable. I highly recommend Smitswinkel and will return with friends or family.
Super! Same opening/closing hours as those of the nature reserve would be an extra plus .
