Rosendal Winery & Wellness Retreat
offers the discerning traveler a unique country guesthouse and spa experience. Renowned for its warm hospitality, pristine mountain setting, excellent cuisine and award-winning wines, Rosendal is an oasis of calm conveniently located in Robertson`s Wine Valley, amidst the many attractions of Route 62, less than two hours` drive from Cape Town.
Rosendal, which was opened in 2005, is owned by Norwegian husband and wife team Geir and Sissel Tellefsen who discovered the original 1805 farmhouse and accompanying l5 ha of potential paradise while holidaying in South Africa.
Set at the base of the Kranskop Mountains, Rosendal`s Cape Dutch gabled entrance reveals an elegant reception. Guests are welcomed with a glass of Rosendal’s finest wine, enjoyed on the outdoor terrace overlooking the farm dam. One glance at the resplendent rolling valleys and russet Sauvignon Blanc vineyards, and a feeling of pure bliss envelops you.
With eight generously appointed rooms, all en-suite and offering magnificent views, our 4-Star Guesthouse offers visitors the opportunity to retreat or mingle, and is ideal for intimate celebrations and corporate breakaways. Soak up the farm’s natural diversity from your private veranda or enjoy a refreshing swim in our rim-flow pool. For nature lovers, a short walk round the farm dam, with its viewing deck, is pure escapism amidst the bustle of bird life. And, in season, an appreciation of farm life comes from witnessing the harvesting of the Sauvignon Blanc grapes and apricots in the adjoining orchards.
Indulged with the beautiful setting it seems only natural to savour the tantalisingly fresh flavours available at our on-site Restaurant. With much-lauded French chef David Godin at the helm, you are guaranteed a superb gastronomic experience, be it for breakfast, lunch or dinner, all of which are served daily. Our well-priced menu ensures that there is something for everyone, with an emphasis on honest food, masterfully prepared.
Having worked at a number of top European restaurants, David first appeared on the local food scene during his time at The Greenhouse at The Cellars-Hohenort hotel, where he became head chef. After winning the highly prized Johnny Walker Chef of the Year award in 2005, he opted for a taste of island life, heading the team at the exclusive North Island, Seychelles, resort (recipient of the Condé Nast Traveller No 1 in the World, Best of the Best, award in 2006).
With a choice of seating either on our deck overlooking the dam or in the Restaurant, with a log fire welcoming you in winter, you are assured of a relaxed yet refined dining experience that will leave you coming back for more.
Spa and Wellness Centre
Rosendal Spa`s focus on wellness seems wholly appropriate in such a sublime setting. Choose from an extensive menu of body and facial therapies, including body wraps, massages, cleansing treatments, manicures and pedicures, and treat yourself to the nourishing properties of the TheraVine product range used. Locally produced, TheraVine has, as its essence, grape-derived ingredients, rich in antioxidants and entirely fitting for use on our historic farm. For brides-to-be, our destination spa creates an ideal setting in which to prepare for your special day.
Central to time spent at Rosendal is a visit to our Cellar, where guests and day-trippers alike can enjoy free tastings of our selection of award-winning premium wines, for sale only at the farm or by direct order. Handcrafted from selected grape cultivars, our wines are produced under four appealing ranges: Rosendal Breeze, Rosendal, Rosendal Barony and Rosendal Reserve. Dinner guests may also request our food-and-wine pairing experience, facilitated by one of our knowledgeable staff members, all of whom are passionate about our wines.
The wines of Rosendal Winery are chosen and prepared by one of South Africa’s leading and award-winning winemakers, Therese de Beer. Her knowledge and mastery, combined with the quality standard of the Winery, gives a unique guarantee when it comes to the individuality of Rosendal’s exclusive wines. Its quality is evident in that Rosendal won South Africa`s most awarded Merlot, two years in a row (2012, 2013)! Simply said, these wines are different from anything you`ve ever tasted.
Our wines are handcrafted with inspiration drawn from the beautiful and fertile surrounding Robertson Valley. As the emphasis is on quality rather than quantity, all grapes are carefully handpicked and the wines are presently only available to an elite market in South Africa.
