Experience a hidden gem, where abundant wildlife roam the plains, where the distant lion roars pierce the dark of night and where the African sunset leaves an unforgettable memory.
And all this just a few minutes drive outside Plettenberg Bay, a small seaside town in the heart of the Garden Route, Western Cape, South Africa.
Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve
is home to Africa’s Big 5 (elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard). The reserve is situated on over 2000 hectares of indigenous beauty and is malaria free. There are over 150 different species of game and bird life.
Join us on a horseback safari to interact closely with the wildlife or simply relax and enjoy a 2 hour game drive in an open land rover with our experienced and well-informed guides and see our large variety of wildlife up close.
The reserve welcomes children, and has a wonderful enclosed play area for children to relax and stretch their legs, while being curiously watched by zebra and wildebeest! The Coffee Shop, bar facilities and curio shop are also open to the public.
Accommodation at Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve: The Baroness Luxury Safari Lodge
The beautiful colonial-style Baroness Luxury Safari Lodge was built in 1822 and has lost little of its original `out of Africa` feel. It is both romantic and luxurious with spectacular views across rolling lawns where zebra and antelope room freely.
Each of the 10 spacious luxury rooms opens onto the picturesque gardens with their indigenous plants, cool verandas, courtyards and quaint plunge pool. There are six double suites, three family rooms and one twin room.
The décor is eclectic and colourful with antiques and giant candelabra and chandeliers mixing effortlessly with leather couches, shabby chic sofas, kilim floor rugs and animal skins. Romantic four poster beds are draped with gossamer fabric mosquito nets and dressed with cotton linen and chenille or faux-fur throws.
Rooms have showers and freestanding bathtubs, some with views across the indigenous forests.
The guest living spaces are heated by log fireplaces and there are many comfortable sitting areas with a library of books. The outside Boma provides an authentic African dining experience and has a bar and deck built above the dam where guests can enjoy sundowners.
We do not supply television sets in the rooms.

Hi the place is great, the room and furniture are almost timeless pieces and very comfortable. The meals both diner and breakfast were not up to standard, good quality but definitely not value for money, the staff were very professional and friendly.

Really enjoyed our stay. Staff were all so polite and wonderful to chat to. Lovely atmosphere at dinner time as well. Prices after the accommodation were really good and never took advantage of being in a high end place. Will recommend this place to anyone. Its real Africa though, there are snakes, scorpions and spiders so if you are scared of these things - they are around!

The Plettenberg experience was wonderful. The staff was friendly, and accommodating. The accommodations were charming and the setting breathtaking. The only thing I would do is improve the signage from the N2. Thanks for such a wonderful experience.
