Magwena River Lodge
is situated on Selwane nature reserve in the Letaba river valley between Gravelotte and Phalaborwa, and expanse over 4100 hectares. Within an hour`s drive from Kruger National Park. On route between Magoebaskloop and Phalaborwa/Kruger Gate.
Comfortable Self-catering and fully catered for accommodation is available for a weekend breakaway, travelers on route to Kruger or for those wanting to make a memory filled holiday. Day visitors are welcome with prior arrangement. We offer the little 5 and an array of general game that makes Selwane the ideal destination for people wanting to enjoy a free walk or mountain bike ride through the reserve.
Magwena River Lodge is nestled deep in the bush on the banks of the Magwena river. The camp has a lovely bush atmosphere with the wood-smoke of the camp fire drifting through the air.
The Camp runs entirely on solar and gas. Hot showers are made with the use of our donkey boiler systems. You will be able to charge those cameras and phones at camp.
Selwane offers the little 5 and an array of beautiful general game, this allows for all to enjoy a free walk or mountain bike ride on the reserve. We definitely encourage people to bring along their mountain bikes, walking shoes and binoculars.
The lodge is booked out in its entirety, that makes it a great spot for friends and family to get together. For the self catering guests we include our Chef and other staff to prepare your meals and look after you while you get to enjoy those beautiful star filled African skies around the fire place.
Accommodation at Maqwena River Lodge:
The rooms are on-suite Thatched Rondawels. Classic Bush Lodge feel to it.
Marola, Mompanie and Jackalberry - They all look a little different to each other. The rooms are tastefully finished with sandstone tiles, white linen and Mosquito nets.
Wide veranda doors to allow the warmth of the African sun to enter you room if you like.
Magwena River Lodge Activities:
- Selwane nature reserve has no dangerous game that makes it safe for Hikers, mountain bikers and Birders to explore the bush.
- Bring along your own mountain bikes please.
- Guest are welcome to go out for picnics on the reserve, maps are provided.
- Quality Horse riding is available on the property.
- Sun downer drives at additional cost are available.
- Selwane nature reserve also boasts with its special game breeding program - guest can join at feeding time and see some of these beautiful animals up close at no extra cost only asking for a small donation of R30 that will go towards our own conservation efforts.

Clothing & Accessories:
Due to being in Malaria area we recommend loose fitting clothing that covers your arms and legs against those mozzie in the summer months.
If you feel like going for a walk in the rain - tag along those rain coats in the summer months.
Bring along your your walking shoes and if you interested in a horse ride bring along long pants and closed shoes.
Winter time gets cold next to the river - bring warm clothing.
Binoculars and cameras are always good to tag along.
Health & Climate:
Malaria Area - we recommend you check in with your travel clinic. Cold in the evenings next to the river. Do not forget your Sunscreen. Summer can get very hot.
