Generations of visitors have experienced the soul-restoring reassurance that comes with being surrounded by the beauty of creation. The forest is filled with ancient trees, animals and over 200 species of birds. Find out more about birding and our walking trails here.

Retreat to one of our three thatched, self-catering cottages furnished with every comfort. The spacious, open plan living area, leads onto a sun deck. Each bedroom has a queen-sized bed and the loft, just up above the living area, has two single beds, so is ideal for the children. There is an antique cast iron Victorian tub and shower in the en-suite bathroom. The heated pool, braai and entertainment area are available for you to use. Fur-children are permitted by arrangement.

Our delicious spring water, from the taps, is drinkable. We have also invested in a generator to ensure that should Eskom load shed, you will enjoy the luxury of a continuous electricity supply. There will be no lights out during your stay with us. Enjoy our free Wi-Fi.

Activities:

You are welcome to explore the forest and guided forest walks are available by arrangement. Over 200 bird species are recorded in the Dargle and we are a summer stop over spot for a pair of Yellow Billed Kites who migrate annually from Central Africa. From the moment we arrived we found Crab Apple Cottages a magical place. The hosts, Berand and Helen were gracious and nothing was too much trouble. Privacy, quiet and back to nature was just what we needed. The gardens were a delight to explore as was the Forest and the Chapel. The cottage itself was decorated to the highest degree and comfort, warmth and relaxation were upper most. The dogs, cats, chickens, birds and magnificent horses all added to the charm of this wonderful oasis. Set in a wonderful area where you can explore and visit lots of country outlets and enjoy meanders across the Midlands. We hope to return. Many thanks for a memorable time.

The cottage was beautiful and they spared no expense in making it warm and cosy. Underfloor heating, electric blanket , bathroom heater , heated towel rail, fire place etc.
The kitchen was very well equipped - it even had a pair of scissors. Most self catering places always neglect to provide a pair of scissors.
Sadly we were there for only one night. We wished we'd booked for longer.
