Carter's Lodge is just an 800m stroll to the beach, or take a walk across the road and you are in the upmarket La Lucia Mall shopping complex or, for the fitness enthusiast, at the Virgin Active Gym and Health Club.
Being situated between Umhlanga and Durban you have the best of both worlds. The metropolis of Durban with its sports stadiums, casino, golf courses, beaches, UShaka marine world, harbour cruises and a whole lot more.
Umhlanga offers a smaller more relaxed beach atmosphere by day but is abuzz at night with an abundance of restaurants and pubs, and, of course the Gateway shopping and entertainment complex - claimed to be the largest in Africa. But KwaZulu Natal isn't all about sea and shops.
If African game watching and South African history is your interest, within 45 minutes you can watch and learn about the Zulu dancing and culture, and just 2 to 3 hours away you can visit the KwaZulu Natal game parks featuring the Big 5, or take a tour to the Battlefields.
From King Shaka Airport, take the N2 South towards Umhlanga and Durban. Take the Umhlanga/Mt.Edgecombe/Phoenix turnoff and turn left to travel along the M41.
From Johannesburg, take the N2 North towards Stanger.
