Enjoy walks through the farmyard, down to the Little Caledon River, through mealie or wheat fields as well as hikes up our farm mountains.
The Eastern Free State town of Fouriesburg is in the scenic Brandwater Basin, surrounded by the Maluti, Rooiberg and Witteberg mountain ranges, on the border of Lesotho.
Fouriesburg is named after Christoffel Fourie, on whose farm, Groenfontein, it was established in 1892. During the Anglo Boer War, it was declared the capital of the Orange Free State Republic - a proclamation yet to be rescinded. With a primarily agricultural economy - wheat, cherries, asparagus, sunflowers, beans and mielies - it also offers unique scenic beauty, activities for nature and adventure enthusiasts, arts and crafts, places of historical and architectural interest, and small-town hospitality.
A quieter alternative to the bustling village of Clarens (just 35 km away), Fouriesburg is a comfortable commuting distance from three of South Africa`s major urban centres: Johannesburg (350 km), Durban (400 km) and Bloemfontein (250 km).
